Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Thx for this info. The patch is now in the drm-radeon-testing branch: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g … b087aaddb2
Maybe i will upload the patched kernel this evening.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Ok, i uploaded the new drm-radeon-testing-kernel. Seems to be fixed. You can remove the radeon.no_wb parameter :-)

@venky80: Chakra only provides KDE, does it? If this is true, there should be no problems.

Chakra is based on Arch, but incompatible to it (or more like "maybe compatible"). They provide their own packages, not only KDE.

I have a Radeon X300 and it runs good on i686. Especially compiz runs extremely well.

I think you should include information about running gallium in the first post:
* that there is mesa-full-gallium
* that you need to set LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri_g/ to use it
* that you can set this variable in /etc/profile for system wide usage

because it is already not on the last page and it will not be easy to find soon.

I'm curious - gtklocker are you going to publish xf86-video-ati-git compiled against xserver 1.9?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hm, the package I've pushed to www.gtklocker.com/temp is the one I've built. I don't think it's good to upload it to the repo, as most of the users use the stable packages. wink

Then you can use the drm-radeon-testing-kernel from the repo. But i propose to compile the userland drivers manually.

I should rework the first page completely and rename the whole thread. Maybe i add a wiki page, so everybody can edit it.

Too bad. So everything I have to do is compiling drivers manually. Can I get yours PKGBUILD to make building easier? Thanks in advance.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hey,

I installed:
ati-dri-git-gallium from AUR
libgl-git-gallium from AUR
mesa-git-gallium from AUR
xorg-server-devel from testing
xf86-video-ati-git from AUR

but i still get those drivers in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri :
r200_dri.so  r300_dri.so  r600_dri.so  radeon_dri.so  swrast_dri.so  swrastg_dri.so

and no r300g_dri.so which I am interested in.

AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/r300_dri.so - gets loaded instead

glxinfo shows:

glxinfo |grep -i opengl
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on RV530
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1 Mesa 7.9-devel)
OpenGL extensions:

opposed to what everybody else has for opengl - 2.1

Anybody knows why this is happening? In fact I can't find r300g_dri.so anywhere on the system.

r300g is enabled by default now.

I guess that OpenGL is stuck at version 1.4 because kms isn't enabled.

The full ouput of dmesg, Xorg log and glxinfo can be helpful to see what's wrong.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Dual Pentium II MMX  R350 (Radeon 9800 SE 128bit)

I have mesa-full and mesa-gallium installed along with ati-dri-git

When running with classic mesa everthing works fine but when I run compiz with LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri_g X crashes with an illegal instruction.

I can run openarena  ~20fps and I have tested a few things in wine with the r300 gallium driver.

OpenGL vendor string: X.Org R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on R350
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.9-devel
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

@venky80: yes, it should be possible, but it is still buggy... you should try to know if it works on your machine smile

excuse me... does the repo's server has some problems? It seems to be down...

You must install the package mesa-full-gallium; then gallium is not enable by default, but you can start a single application with gallium using the shell.
You have to write
LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri_g
before the command.

For example, if you call

LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri_g glxinfo|grep OpenGL

you should read Gallium somewhere.

You can permanently use gallium renaming the "dri_g" folder into "dri" (that is the default driver folder)... but this could make your system very unstable!! Do this step only if you are sure and made some tries!

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Guys, I currently use the stable packages with 2.6.35 kernel. This is what i get from the terminal:

[geo@arch ~]$ cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/radeon_pm_info
cat: /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/radeon_pm_info: No such file or directory

What should i do in order to see the power state of my gpu(Ati 5850) ?
