Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Can't compile xf86-video-ati from git. I am experiencing strange error during compilation:

./configure: line 12393: syntax error near unexpected token `RANDR,'
./configure: line 12393: `XORG_DRIVER_CHECK_EXT(RANDR, randrproto)'

Need to do that, because of drivers problems after update (texture crashes, weird screen refresh).

You need to install xorg-server-devel package.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Guys, thank you all! big_smile big_smile
My Ati 5850 has at last 3d support.I have installed the latest packages from perry3d's repo except for the xf86-video-ati-git and installed also the evergreen branch of the driver( http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40105 ).
I have seen no glitches so far using kde 4.5.1 and i have enabled the kwin effects which work great.I get 60fps in glxgears.I haven't yet played any 3d games but i will try and tell you about the results.
The only thing remaining is for the evergreen accel branch to be merged in xf86-video-ati-git master. big_smile big_smile

Try

vblank_mode=0 glxgears

and you will hopefully get more than 60fps big_smile

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

This is what glxgears gives me:
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh.  The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
298 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.500 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.783 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.983 FPS

Is gallium working good with latest radeon repo packages?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I haven't tested much yet but it seems to work fine with KMS on a hd5750 card.

'vblank_mode=0 glxgears'  runs at ~1546 FPS.
Minecraft doesn't look quite right yet.
Hedgewars plays fine.

OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on JUNIPER
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.10-devel
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

Using:
kernel26.36-mainline with embedded firmware
libgl-git-gallium
mesa-git-gallium
xf86-video-evergreen-git

IIRC I had to add 'xf86-video-ati-git' to the 'provides' section in the PKGBUILD of xf86-video-evergreen-git to satisfy a dependency of ati-dri-git-gallium.
I also added --enable-gallium-r600 in a few places. Not sure if that's needed though.
Might have done a few other tweaks as well. Took quite a while to figure out xf86-video-ati-git wasn't what I needed so it's all a bit blurry.

It seems that the evergreen code is now in master.

Perry3D, when you get the time to update your repo, please add lib32-libtxc_dxtn from here too:

http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40343

Not that it is usable on newer radeons...

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hi, someone has succeeded in enabling color tiling on evergreen? I use the latest mesa-git ati-dri-git libgl-git and xf86-video-ati-git packages, and the kernel taken from drm-radeon-testing git tree for the latest radeon module. Everything works ok, but ,even when enabling explicitly color tiling in the xorg.conf file , I get the message "KMS color tiling: disabled" in the xorg log.

Is color tiling not yet supported on evergreen?

Why do you guys think it is a bad thing to have 60fps in any program?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Do the gallium version of mesa works well with the r700 radeon driver? (I've an ATI radeon 4850HD)
Because this might solve my problem with blur in KDE 4.5.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

The gallium driver for my hd 4670 works good, ... sort of.
For example nexuiz is a bit slower with r600g instead of r600c but it runs flawless... In wine warcraft3 there was no mouse pointer but it looked good too...

So You should just test it if it fulfills your needs.

Same here. I'm sticking with kernel 2.6.34 as any kernel above it (2.6.35 from stable or 2.6.36-rc5 from git) give-me 3D more than 10 times slower!

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Sorry for the late update, but the repo should now also work with r800 (evergreen) cards.

@aline: The driver isn't slower with 2.6.35. It's just adjusted to your monitor refresh rate to prevent tearing effects. And it makes no sense to have more fps as your monitor can display.
But if you really want to switch off this feature change vblank_mode to 0. You can append export vblank_mode=0 to your /etc/profile.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

What about the lib32 stuff in the repo? It is a bit old.
When I tried to run wine stuff with lib32-mesa-full from the repo it just didn't work... The PKGBUILD is a bit strange, too. I compiled lib32-mesa-full from AUR and it did work. Is there a reason you don't use this PKGBUILD?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

There is no reason. There was no PKGBUILD in the AUR when i wrote the package.
But with my package i can use the packages i build for the i686 repo. So i don't have to build them twice.
But thank you for this advice.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I have a Radeon Mobility HD 5830, and Evergreen support doesn't seem to be working for me, with either the core xf86-video-ati or the stack of components in the [radeon] repo (all the git packages that Perry's OP lists.)  When I look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I still see:

(II) RADEON(0): No DRI yet on Evergreen

...

(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled
(EE) RADEON(0): Acceleration initialization failed
(II) RADEON(0): Acceleration disabled

If I run glxinfo, sure enough, software rendering.  Anyone know what I can do to get DRI working?
