It was an upstream bug. Yesterday i compiled mesa and updated the repo.
Should be a nice speed up with the latest update.

my bug seems to be fix as of kernel26-drm-radeon-testing 20110114-1
Perry3D i notice this is still kernel 2.6.37-rc8, does this mean 2.6.37 final wont have the fix, is there some patch??

Hoping someone might be able to help me figure this one out ..
I'm running KMS (2.6.36) early start on an HD 4350 connected via DVI-HDMI cable to my TV and pretty much always getting a black screen.
Initially, I'd thought the system was freezing up, however I've come to discover that the vid card just seems to send output over the HDMI port on the card instead of the DVI port. Forcing output over DVI via kernel parameter at least gets the system to boot and display startup messages as well as console (video=DVI-I-1:1920x1080-24@60e).
Problem I now face, however, is that if I execute setfont, startx or gdm the screen defaults to black again.

You can look at the git repository from drm-radeon-testing. Maybe you'll find the right patch: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g … on-testing
Or just wait for the first bugfix release of 2.6.37.

Maybe you can create a xorg.conf and set the right output port again?
@skodabenz: If have no problems with the repo. But i use pacman from core.
Your pacman tries to load radeon.db, but there is only a radeon.db.tar.gz.

Can you include radeon.db and nightly.db in the respective repos? I maintain a repo for my grub2 packages in dropbox, it is skodabenz-arch-grub2. It has
[keshav_pr@keshav-laptop skodabenz-arch-grub2]$ file skodabenz-arch-grub2*
skodabenz-arch-grub2.db: symbolic link to `skodabenz-arch-grub2.db.tar.gz'
skodabenz-arch-grub2.db.tar.gz: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Fri Jan 14 19:45:09 2011
repo-add does this automatically. Thanks in advance.

I need to look for this. My script doesn''t upload symlinks.

Seems like repo-add first tries symbolic link, then hard link, then normal copying of '.db.tar.gz' file to 'db' (lines 532 to 534 in http://projects.archlinux.org/pacman.gi … -add.sh.in . For now if symlinks are not possible in your repo, you can just copy radeon.db.tar.gz to radeon.db.

The newest builds in the repositry are broken, in Quake3 or glxgears I just got ugly pixel-mud.
I use a Radeon 5650 Mobile with the Gallium drivers, vblank_mode=0.
I will not offer screenshots, because the shell says everything
glxinfo | grep -i opengl

Hi
I installed all the packages you describe on your frist post (excluding the mesa-full-gallium), because I get a system crash with the drivers from extra.
With the new driver the system crash is gone but I get some wired artefacts in KDE.
Has somebody an idea what the problem can be and how to solve it? Thanks.
Edit:
My PC config:
Arch x86_64, new net installation up-to-date (pacman -Syu) + Perry3 D repo
AMD X6, Radeon HD5830, dual head installation

You can look for error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and in dmesg | grep -i drm.
Are you using the kwin desktop effects? Maybe you should disable some effects: blur for example.
Do you have the same distortions with other window manager?
The 3d acceleration for your card is relatively new. Maybe the bug is known: https://bugs.freedesktop.org .

I had deactivated all 3D effects, TWM worked fine.
I reinstalled all driver,mesa,... from extra and removes all packages from your repo (this configuration had worked with no artefacts, but crashed when I quitting X,KDE). But now the artefacts are still there .
Maybe there is a corrupted icon/pixmap cache somewhere. Killing ~/.kde4 didn't worked out.
Edit:
Deleting /var/tmp/kdecache-* and restart KDM solves the problem with the artefacts. Ok, maybe I don't need to delete all files in this directory. But now back to your driver repo
Edit2:
The artefacts are back with the Perry3D Repo (incl. deleting kdechache-*).
I will install the closed source driver until I have time to play around with the open source drivers. Thanks for your help.

I have only artifacts within OpenGL games (IOQuake3 or glChess), maybe because I use only Metacity with compositeing.
Devno can you take a look at following bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33158
Can you post the output of "glxinfo | grep -i opengl" with Perry3DRepo?

Hi All,
Perry3D,
I try to fix the issues with headers and compiling virtualbox.
I solved to apply the headers based an PKGBUILD of ARCH Stock Kernel with some modifications.
I use this in my Kernel Builds.
In your header script have some issues. One those is deleting arch/Kconfig when deleting unneeded architecures.
So, i think be more productive and more easy, apply he.
To download diff here:
http://pastebin.com/download.php?i=iyMp0d7V
With he i build vboxdrv setup and madwifi.
Sorry my english.

Just a heads up.
I just noticed this commit, which hopefully means that even better powersaving is comig soon. Sadly there is no change yet.

Wow, thank you very much. Every patch is welcome. I have not enough time to rework the PKGBUILDs regularly.
And a patch is the easiest way to do this .

princeamd: were those artefacts related to my bugreport, or something else?
I am rather concerned about the bug since I've spent a lot time developing a game ("rollcagex") which uses VBO rendering extensively (and packs several models into just a few VBOs, for rendering optimization), and currently gets artefacts and crashes with the open ati/radeon drivers.

Hi,
I've just switched from catalyst to your open driver on my Vaio with a 5670 and everything seems to be fine.
I've just a couple of questions:
There's a way to get 3d acceleration with the driver in the extra repo (xf86-video-ati ati-dri) in order to run al least compiz?
I've switched to the low power profile, since I just need the power to run compiz, but still seems that the fan is a bit loudy, can it be?
Using the driver in the extra repo, I had a perfect smooth scrolling in firefox (but no 3d!); now it's far from being smooth, why? I've tried using both gallium and mesa with and without vsync...
Thanks
Regards

@punkeroso: Can you give us some input:

dmesg |grep drm
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
@Sykalmian: I looked at the german arch forum: Kromonos, who build the repo, is no longer using Arch. But he wrote that he will find somebody to continue his work.

Hello everyone, I'm currently using Catalyst's 10.10 privative module (thanks Vi0L0 and folks) and while they are passable I wonder how well the OpenSource module performs and which are the two or three biggest differences between them.
I also would like to know how well they perform with KDE with KWin and all eye-candy effects enabled, thank you!

@punkeroso: I cannot find any errors in the logs. Are you sure your user is in the video group?
What is the output of compiz when you try to start it?
@msx: That depends on what you are doing with your machine. If you need heavy 3d acceleration (games) stay with the catalyst driver. If you just need some compositing (compiz for example) the open driver works flawless. Videos are also working fine: i can see no tearing or other effects. There is video acceleration (X-Video) but no hardware video decoding (like xvba).
I have no experience with kwin cause i am using gnome with compiz which has always been faster than kwin.
@lgomes: i am currently updating the repo and your patch for the kernel is applied. So the header problem should be solved

With your driver compiz runs just fine, but with the driver in the extra repo I got a message relating something about GLX.
