I just tried out Parcellite's "Synchronize clipboards" option. Seems to work well.

I don't understand why I must click on copied text in Parcellite or glipper-old to make it pastable with Ctrl-V?
For example, I copy some text in Geany and close it, then open it again and when I try Ctrl-V, nothing appears. But, if I click the daemon icon in tray, then select the copied text in the list (it's already italic there) - now paste works.
What causes this behaviour?

You have to turn "synchronize" on for that. Ctrl-v and highlight are two different buffers, so to say. So you can paste the stuff from highlighting with middle mouse click. But if you want to paste it via ctrl-v in some GUI-app you have to synchronize that in parecellite.

Interestingly, the synchronize option in parcellite is disabled (grayed out).
Glipper-old doesn't have a similar option.
BTW, it's not highlighting copying (like in urxvt), it's plain old Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V.

Hm? Strange. It isn't for me (though i don't use it). I don't really use ctrl-v/ctrl-c either..

I got it enabled, it enables if I select "Use Primary (selection)" first.
However, that was not the solution to what I was looking for...

This never really bothered me, I've always used select/middle click. Except when you accidentally select something else before pasting. Or I try to do the same on a windows box.
Parcellite with sync turned on seems to work pretty well. I can select something, then paste it either way. And it has a history menu.

I think it would be user friendly if applications where the user would use the clipboard a lot would actually show what is in the clipboards before you use them. E.g. if you click firefox's address bar a small region appears below it with
"Shift+Insert: http://...."
"Ctrl+V: Not an URL"
"Maybe something else: http://....2"

Firefox has an annoying feature that puts the copy/paste right into the location bar and then if that isn't annoying enough one doesn't know how it got there and it brings up a webpage based on the clipboard. How do I get that to stop?
I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...
Look ma, no mouse.

Try one or more of these
about:config
Change "browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick" to false
Change "middlemouse.contentLoadURL" to false
Change "middlemouse.openNewWindow" to false
Change "middlemouse.paste"to false

About the topic: I use glipper-old I always select what I want just before pasting.
@skunktrader
Thanks a lot, changing "middlemouse.contentLoadURL" to false was exactly what I wanted since Firefox was called Phoenix...
