Re: KMS & ATI & kernel 2.6.31.2 - slow performance

if it means anything, i just got kms & dri2 to work using the git packages from AUR for libgl and mesa and the ati driver and everything else (20091012 version), and i find that although everything says that it is loading correctly and all, the performance of dri2 just doesnt seem to be very good right now. i frequently get 40-50% cpu usage from X from just scrolling stuff or moving windows around.

so maybe its just a matter of getting everything optimized from here..

With kms enabled,X have 50% or so cpu useages, and the whole system become blooted,so i have to disable it.

Re: KMS & ATI & kernel 2.6.31.2 - slow performance

if anyone is not having these horrible performance issue with ati kms and dri2 enabled in 2.6.31-arch can you please tell us what version of the the driver and related packages you are using ? if they are git, which revision too.

i mean, perhaps it's just that we all just caught a bad snapshot of the drivers. like i said, mine's dated october 12th.

Men you are all crazy. Most of you are not running official testing repo but try now to break their systems with git stuff.

Why do you update if you see the first people claiming performance drops? You should really know what you are doing. I mean we are ArchLinux. And if you would follow the commit list you should see that Xorg 7.5 should be ready within the next few days. So why can't you wait that few days?

And everybody with superdupernew gaming cards will use catalyst anyways.

I can't understand all this forum noise about kms and non kms 3d and performance issues.

I can't understand developers ignoring the fact that the problem with kms is not only about 3d performance, but about stability, either. kms broke resume on my t60 (x1400).

With radeon.modeset=0 the problem was solved though. Nevertheless, when an update brings instability, isn't the bbs there for discussion and possible solutions? With your comment you only want to cut it short - that's not what a developer's supposed to do.
