Just getting into the winter spirit, my favorite time of year ^_^

How do you get the transparent terminal windows like your screenshot?

Thanks!

Re: December 2009 Screenshots - Take 3

Sorry for not replying sooner why while you guys were posting I was sleeping tongue  Wow, I am surprised, thanks for the kind words guys.  I have been using this same setup since I started using KDE 4.3 as my DE.  Just never thought of posting it. roll

Anyway to answer some questions:

@ algol.tr, it is the kde widget "folder view" configured to display my home directory.

@ ftornell, I never liked KDE either since I first tried it back in 2001 and was convinced I would never use it.  I actually tried version 4.3 the day it hit our repositories but removed it just hours later.  However I realised I had not really given it a fair shot and swore I would try it for a month and if I liked it I liked it I would continue to use it.  Honestly, I disliked it for the first few minutes until I realised how customizable it is and that I could make it look and function as I like.  Now it is by far my favourite DE.

Anyway sorry I was going off topic, the bar is the default one using air theme.  I just tweaked its settings to make it taller, added spacers (love white space) and made it around 80% the width of my screen.  All standard options of the bar. Icons (Silver)

Now my terminal colours are:
Foreground: #DCDCCD --- Intense: #DCDCCD
Background: #3F3F3F --- Intense: #2C2C2C
Colour 1: #705050 --- Intense: #709080
Colour 2: #2A1B70 --- Intense: #D353DC
Colour 3: #60B48A --- Intense: #BF67D5
Colour 4: #DFAF8F --- Intense: #413EF0
Colour 5: #9AB9D7 --- Intense: #DC72F3
Colour 6: #53B8DC --- Intense: #4A5DEC
Colour 7: #9663D3 --- Intense: #685FE3
Colour 8: #DCDCCD --- Intense: #D688FF

My terminal font is Pragmata.

Edit:  Just another note about the bar I just thought of.  You need compositing enabled in System Settings if you want the nice gradient effect.

The software required Windows XP or better, so I installed archlinux.

i decided to switch from dwm to wmii a few weeks ago, which has been great so far. it's pretty much vanilla wmii except for different status bar output.

I've seen young people waste their time reading books about sensitive vampires. It's kinda sad. But you say it's not the end of the world... Well, maybe it is!

It's weird; anytime I do "import -window root" it blanks out whatever's overlapping. neutral
Also, lol@me using floating window mode. This is solely just messing around, I'll never use floating windows, except my *scratchpad*.

EDIT:
lol, hey, we're using the same wallpaper, ootput.

Well, I'm using ion-3-darcs so it's the "experimental" version of sorts, but if I recall correctly the regular ion3 has a floating ability as well. This is the "Empty" mode where windows can Float->Group together and [optionally] tile, as well. You can match windows to be the same size as each other or toggle them as "completely horizontal/vertical" or have them in "slides" like the Xbox's Blades, etc, etc.. It's actually very customizable, it's just that most people don't want to bother learning everything you can do or manipulate in ion. There was a fad about a month ago where every other screenshot was of ion3 but now that's not so much the case. tongue I love the Lua language so it works for me.

And thanks! The "look_" is mine too so it may look slightly different than it normally would when in floating-mode. It's called "ghostcandy" big_smile

Two reasons. Used to read a lot of literature about spells and sorcery long time ago. And it is also a tribute to my favorite Linux distribution, Sorcerer OS. Though I have extensively used it's forks, Lunar and SourceMage, Sorcerer will always be my number one. I still use it on a few computers.

Re: December 2009 Screenshots - Take 3

Sourcemage was the first source-based distro I'd ever tried (long before LFS and Gentoo) and I absolutely loved it. At that time, the IRC presence was pretty small, but for a beginner, the tight-knit-ness of the community was awesome. You're the first person I've seen in a long while who's mentioned using it in the past.

edit:

@ Tyriel: Nice!

I totally concur with you on the IRC comment. I always relied on IRC when I ran into issues with Lunar and SourceMage. Since it was a very small community, most of my queries used to be answered almost immediately. I dabbled with Sorcerer before Kyle gave up. I fell for its awesomeness, especially with stuff like grimoires, spells, casting and leeching. But once it went off the radar, i tried Gentoo, which went pretty well for sometime. Then Lunar happened, and SourceMage followed. Was fantastic to see almost similar stuff with SourceMage. I still use it on one very old machine, and i have updated so many times over the years, and not once have i had to fix things up.

But once Kyle got Sorcerer up again, I couldn't resist going back. That's just about it. Sorcerer IRC is not that active, but mailing lists are pretty awesome. As far as LFS goes, I never used it personally, but I helped a friend setup a custom build for his age old laptop sometime back which still works absolutely fine working as a music server at his home. LFS was a lot of fun.

Sorry for going OT!
