Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

There is a poll to select the new icon for guayadeque. You can add your vote here http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/02/choo … music.html

Thanks

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

anonbeat:

I built and installed svn version 711 of Guayadeque and for the most part things look and run pretty well.

I have noticed however that the initial reading of the library at startup has slowed noticably.  Whatever is causing this, it is taking Guayadeque a good deal longer from startup to being responsive and usable than it did a few versions back.

I believe this requires your fairly quick attention.

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Well - I just built and installed svn version 735 of Guayadeque.

1.  This version seems to run fine - no issues to report so far;

2.  The slowness of the initial loading of the library seems improved;

3.  The new logo is - in my opinion - very ugly - not at all attractive;

4.  The color scheme of the splash screen is absolutely hideous.  I'm glad the splash screen can be turned off - if it couldn't I would be nausiated every time I started Guayadeque.

anonbeat - the code is good and works well - but come on man - certainly you can do better that that shitty looking ubuntu style artwork you settled on.  If this thing get's any more ubuntu-like - I will stop using it - I swear!

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Yes - I compile the svn version regularly.  I am currently on svn version 0.2.6-0874.

Runs great.

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Really nice piece of software. I found. installed and tested it yesterday and was impressed how fast it was able to handle my library. Today i switched to the svn version. The following questions came into my mind while using it heavily:

1. I really like the way it treats my album-covers, because I use a folder.jpg in every directory of my music-collection. I believe that a cover.jpg was saved yesterday, but I'm sure the cover-downloader saved a folder.jpg today. Perhaps it would be nice to set this as user or save the format of the #1 entry which it uses to look for covers (perhaps it's already done that way?)

2. I've read the whole thread and it concerns another of this criticized extra-features. I think it would very nice to let the application handle the structure of my music-directories/library in perhaps the following - user settable - way: %artist/%year - %album/%number - %track.mp3. But that's just an idea, because I can imagine that it's very work/performance-expensive to manage/update this stuff.

3. Just another question/hint: When using the tag-editor yesterday (0.2.5), the gui immediately updated the changed values, but today (0.2.6-882) I just have to reselect the relevant media to notice the updates. At first I thought it didn't changed at all and later I was confused about the changed track-name. I've got no problems with this now, but is it intended or did I find a bug? smile

I will continue to use the player, because of it's feature AND performance richness and it's easy handling compared to songbird (which also isn't any longer supported under linux) for example.

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Congratulations to all the developers involved. I'm trying this both on ubuntu 9.10 and Archlinux, and the impression is absolutely positive, it's just a perfect fusion of my first love "Listen" and "Exaile".
I'd suggest to add some predefined layouts, especially one geared towards netbook users. I had to close a lot of panels to fit everything in the tiny screen smile
You could, for example, add a first-launch wizard or some kind of choice, allowing the user to opt for a minimal approach or for a full-experienced interface.

Keep up with the good work, you managed to craft a very slick and featured player in a very short time! big_smile

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Hi there,

I've noticed that since the last svn build I did changed the way my keyboard shortcuts work. More specifically, I have a shortcut that used to be a play/pause, set to this command:

dbus-send --print-reply --type=method_call --dest=org.mpris.guayadeque /Player org.freedesktop.MediaPlayer.Play

Has that changed? If so, which is the new correct command to do play/pause through dbus?
Thanks!

Edit: just figured it out! I had to thange the Play at the end of the command into Pause.

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

For those interested in using Guayadeque-svn - there have been a few changes.  The main one that I want to mention is the addition of cross fade capabilities.  For this program with cross fader (version svn-963 and above) to work properly in archlinux - the following gstreamer pkgs must be installed:

gstreamer0.10
gstreamer0.10-bad
gstreamer0.10-base
gstreamer0.10-base-plugins
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
gstreamer0.10-good
gstreamer0.10-good-plugins
gstreamer0.10-python
gstreamer0.10-ugly
gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins

Plus the following 2 dependencies for gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins:

a52dec
libsidplay

Hope this will help any who try this great player to avoid any functional problems.

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Yes, I added gstreamer0.10-plugins as an optional dependency in guayadeque-svn  PKGBUILD. Command "pacman -S gstreamer0.10-plugins" installs all gstreamer plugins mentioned in the Theoden's post above.

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Are you sure that gstreamer0.10-python is needed? That's weird, because I can't find any python files among the source code.

Edit: actually, it has just worked without it and without gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Guayadeque looks very nice, but I cannot get any sound from it. Everything seems to work, I get no errors, even Vumeter show the decibels right, but nothing is played from the speakers nor the headphones. Yes, I have already raised every single volume level, and yes, every other app sounds as it should. Executing it from the terminal gives me no error, everything seems fine. I have tested both 0.2.5 and svn with same results.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Do you have any other gstreamer-based app with sound working?

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

I've found that the problem relies on some permission trouble, because running it as root works fine.

Any suggestion?

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Hmm... maybe you are running your X session without ConsoleKit knowing it? If you are running something different than Gnome or KDE, you should have 'exec ck-launch-session whatever' in your .xinitrc

Also, you can try reinstalling some gstreamer-related packages and pacman will warn you if a file has wrong permissions

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Thanks for answering.

I'm running Xfce, but already have exec ck-launch-session in .xinitrc
Reinstalling gstreamer (and all its plugins) doesnt give me any error

Re: Guayadeque Music Player testing request

Which filesystem do you use in the partition where the files were located? When this happens there are a few things you can do to recover (most) of the files. Just take care of not writing into the partition for not overwrite the deleted files.

Take a look at extundelete and photorec (into testdisk pkg).

what actions can I assign  through Multimedia action? (play, play/pause, stop, next, prew?) do you plan to add ability to rate current song through global shortcuts or Multimedia actions(newer used them)?
