Re: Real newb question

My laptop is a Compaq Armada 1700, I think I got build-in ethernet... When I installed Ubuntu the internet worked fine (auto install)

Edit: my sound card is ESS 1688, and my netcard is a 3Com Megahertz Lan (model 3ccfe574bt),  if thats any help...

Re: Real newb question

ok, thank you very much, as a last question... am I just supposed to insert my eth0 and sound into the the MODULES line as this (including defaults):
MODULES=(!usbserial !ide-scsi !3c574_cs !snd-card-audiodrive1688)
or as this:
MODULES=(!3c574_cs !snd-card-audiodrive1688)

Re: Real newb question

take away "!" before those modules you wanna load,
also, maybe your network card is a built-in pcmcia, you may have to do something more to get it to work,

Re: Real newb question

Well, now I have configured what I can, I got the system rebooted, but under the reboot, it says:  Network is not running.    Try "Network start".
How can I enter the so called "network start" I tried to write #network start , but that doesnt work. Please help. I need an internet connection to dl with pacman!
I have also tried writing "ifconfig", but it only showed my lo, not my eth0. I dont have a clue why it is doing this... :?
in my /etc/rc.conf it says:
lo="lo 127.0.0.1
eth0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0)

Re: Real newb question

Just a suggestion ( I haven't checked..you may have already done this)...check out the IRC channel to get some faster responses to questions.

it's on freenode, so you could point your client at irc.freenode.net , channel: #archlinux .

The suggestion box only accepts patches.
