Perhaps running alsaconf first will permit alsamixer to be accessed.
I've already done that, alsaconf finds the soundcard though.

My sound also doesn't work.
I'm using kernel26-lts with udev-compat.
I have tried the newest kernel with the same problem.
I think my sound stopped working around the time when I upgraded mkinitcpio from klibc to busybox.
alsaconf can't find my soundcard.
