Re: KDE 3.4 pre packages in TUR tpowa available

I'm having slight problems with my screen saver since upgrading to the kde 3.4 beta - in that it doesn't come on.

Well, to be exact, it just gives a blank screen. I suppose I could think of worse things, but no matter which I choose it always goes to blank. If I select, for example, the banner, and select Test, sure enough I'll see it running. But if I leave the SS to come on automatically, then it's a blank screen only.

When I installed the beta, I followed the recommendations in the group and removed the 3.3 packages before installing the 3.4 packages.

Just a niggle. I can live without screensavers, but I thought I'd let you know!

Anyone has problems with PDF files.  I can open them directly with kpdf program, but PDFs do not display anything when opening on embeeded mode  from Konqueror.

Re: KDE 3.4 pre packages in TUR tpowa available

Since beta2 is out now I figured I would give the new KDE a try. I Updated to 3.3.92 today without much trouble. It looks great. The improvements on Kpdf are especially impressive. Thanks for the pakages tpowa!

I did have one minor issue though: The script in "kde.csh"  in /etc/profile.d/ that sets KDE directory info was not working. As a consequence, menus and config dialogs were unavailable for all of KDE. If fixed this by creating a new script "kde.sh" in /etc/profile.d/ with the following content:

export KDEDIR=/opt/kde
export KDEDIRS=/usr:$KDEDIR
export PATH=$KDEDIR/bin:$PATH
export MANPATH=$KDEDIR/man:$MANPATH
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$KDEDIR/lib/pkgconfig:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH
if [ -e $XDG_DATA_DIRS ]; then
  export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$KDEDIR/share
else
  export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$KDEDIR/share:$XDG_DATA_DIRS
fi
if [ -e $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS ]; then
  export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$KDEDIR/etc/xdg
else
  export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$KDEDIR/etc/xdg:$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS
fi

Again, thanks for the pakages!

Re: KDE 3.4 pre packages in TUR tpowa available

hi
yes new kde packages are out now it's time for beta2 smile
i'll upload a new kdebase file later that should fix media applet

all should notice that all install info is gone and now point to a wiki.
kdebase-config is replaced by kde-common so please deinstall kdebase-config before upgrading.
i changed some stuff and now it is possible to use the filesharset in konqui without being root smile

@jw i will check your fix soon so it will be in next kde-common package

as usual enjoy the new kde release smile
and give feedback on it.
greetings tpowa

Re: KDE 3.4 pre packages in TUR tpowa available

I had to install it with "pacman -Sf kde" as it complained about common .png files included in kdeartwork and kdelibs (in /opt/kde/share/emoticons/default)... something wrong here?
Other than that it does work great.

I don't have any problem using the next kde.sh with KDE 3.3.2:

export KDEDIR=/opt/kde
export KDEDIRS=$KDEDIR:/usr
export PATH=$PATH:$KDEDIR/bin
export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$KDEDIR/man
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$PKG_CONFIG_PATH:$KDEDIR/lib/pkgconfig
if [ ! -z $XDG_DATA_DIRS ]; then
  export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$XDG_DATA_DIRS:$KDEDIR/share
else
  export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$KDEDIR/share
fi
if [ ! -z $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS ]; then
  export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS:$KDEDIR/etc/xdg
else
  export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$KDEDIR/etc/xdg
fi

I remember doing some extensive research on XDG variables on last major KDE release and I concluded that the KDE dirs should be put at the end the order counts (there's also a good reason for using "! -z".. but I don't remember it right now).

Are you sure the problem with the menus is not a problem of other scripts setting those variables.
I can see others had the same problems in: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=67188

i updated the wiki, it seems it's better to deinstall kde first and reinstall it with new packages.

Re: KDE 3.4 pre packages in TUR tpowa available

Hi, the new kdm is not reading my:

/opt/kde/share/config/kdm/Xservers

where I configure the X server with dpi 100 and nolisten like this:

:0 local@tty1 /usr/X11R6/bin/X -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp

Where do i have to put now the options -dpi and -nolisten?

Re: KDE 3.4 pre packages in TUR tpowa available

OK, the script thing was a pacman problem. I installed with "pacman -Uf". The file "kde.sh" did not install and I guess "kde.csh" is not executed by bash. Installed yesterday on my laptop doing "pacman -R <kde packages>" followed by "pacman -Uf <kde packages>", which worked just fine.

Sorry to bother you with a non-existant bug

opt/kde/share/emoticons/Default/angry.png: exists in "kdelibs" (target) and "kdeartwork" (target)

I have personally never seen such a beautiful pacman output (I mean it).
That makes me ask myself one question: does that mean "angry.png" is both in kdelibs and kdeartwork which are going to be installed?

Getting this error is pretty weird.
Check the KDE wiki page here.

It's been to my understanding that ../Xservers file no longer exists. (I don't use 3.4beta* yet).
You might want to have a look over ../kdmrc.

I am also interested in this, since I use "-dpi 96" option for all the X sessions listed in ../Xservers in KDE3.3).

kdm is currently worked on really hard but as if i understand it right you have to modify the kdmrc for such stuff.

to the rest with having problems please deinstall kde first and then update to new version.

Re: KDE 3.4 pre packages in TUR tpowa available

Argh, this little bug is killing me. Do you guys also have problems with the desktop access special button? When I click on it and then click on any icon on the desktop or the panel, it opens *under* the window, which was active before clicking on the desktop access button. It's really annoying, I must admit, as I access desktop a lot. If you guys don't experience anything like that, it'd mean it's something on my side :-) So, gimme some feedback please.

Anyone else having problems with "devices" under konqueror?
Is it not operational in 3.4 yet?

Most other things are working nicely anyways. Great job with the packages.

Hey, I have the exact same problem. I had KDE 3.4 beta1 installed and I performed

pacman -Rd kde

before trying to install the new beta2.

Can anyone give a solution for this? Please? sad
