Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

clipman causes the save hang for me and glipper interferes with pasting formulas in OO calc, use glipper-old instead.

I don't have those installed...

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

It dosen't seem to actually be the cut and paste action.

I have been able to save after having cut and paste.

But I can reliably get openoffice to crash on saving, after highlighting a row, setting the background colour.

Edit: if I highlight 3 cells, and set the background colour, openpffice saves normally.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I had
export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen

entered in the .bash_profile file, to make openoffice open in an older view, to fix certian display issues that I have in kde4.

I have removed the .bash_profile entry, and this seems to have let me save a .ods that I couldn't save in the last post.

the display issue is now reoccuring.

+1 for random crashes.
OO 3.1xx works well. I downgraded due to no other way so far.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

ditto - after upgrading to OO 3.2.0-1, I would get fairly frequent hangs when saving a spreadsheet which was originally created with earlier versions.  Sometimes saving would work, sometimes not.  Also, the progress bar would hang at different lengths each time I tried to repeat the test.  I had to kill soffice each time.

Example scenario - I would open the spreadsheet (even if it had already been saved with 3.2.0), would edit two cells, and it would hang on saving.  If I edited one cell, saved, edited the second cell, and saved again, then it might not hang.  But I was not able to determine any consistent action which would trigger the problem - it seemed random.  I tried disabling all macros - no effect.

At one point I was simply unable to save the spreadsheet no matter how many times I tried.  That was when I downgraded to 3.1.1, which corrected the problem.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I can't find any bug in the bug tracker about this.

It seems to be a random bug: I can enter 2 values and save them, enter a 3rd one then it crashes when I save further.

I have to save after every modification so I can be sure to recover my work. Most annoying bug I had on archlinux so far, but is it related to Archlinux or OpenOffice only?  I can't see any post about this issue on http://www.oooforum.org/

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

Actually it is moving towards a disaster. Since the latest updates all 3.1. OO installations stopped working and the actual version of OO crashes on too many files when saving. In fact it also damages the files and I have regularly to dig out backups. No need to mention the excitement about lost changes...
What happens seldomly with Arch is that everybody seems helpless.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I have found out, that it doesn't work with native .od? files, with .doc and .xls it works :-/

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

Confirmed, XLS works.
I saved an always crashing ODS document in the page preview and it worked!?! hmm But from my side it is still pre-mature to see a pattern. I will try more crash files this way. At least this would be a workaround.
Also I compiled openoffice-base from ABS without any improvement.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I got this when it crashed: soffice.bin: malloc.c:4633: _int_malloc: Assertion `victim->fd_nextsize->bk_nextsize == victim' failed.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I also experience this, openoffice-base 3.2.0-3 x86_64.
It seems to happen less frequently since the most recent update, but I might be imagining it.
Most of the time the hung process needs to be kill -9ed.
Very occasionally SIGINT will work.
I have a sheet at the moment I can reliably reproduce this on, unfortunately it's encrypted and confidential so I can't send it neutral
btw, I take it this happens on non-passworded ODSs as well?

The crash used to happen much more frequently on files accessed through Samba.  This is not the case any more and network files work much better now.  Still crashes tho sad

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

In my case I see lots of crashes on nfs4 shares. Specifically saving big files is a pain, while small files generally work. Saving as xls solves the problem, but is surely not openoffice's favorite solution... Password protected or not doesn't make any difference here.

This discribes my experience as well. On my system, I have only had hangs when saving OO calc documents with *contents copied from* OO calc documents created by (much) older OO versions. Documents created by OO versions within the last six months or so are (so far!) unaffected.

I don't know whether this is caused by Linux or OpenOffice, but cut/paste in OO has never been optimal under KDE in any Linux distro I have used. Example: Often when opening an OO calc document, "paste special" is not available. If I close the document, then copy something, "paste special" is available when I open the document again. The other way around, as it were: When saving an OO calc document under a new name, it is often not registered by Dolphin. I have to restart Dolphin to make it visible.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

since I removed the .bash_profile customisation (export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen), I have not had one crash.

I encountered this problem without changing SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN, although I did have the following set:
export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=none
export GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/openbox-3/themerc

I use the latter to remove the color from Calc (so I can see the custom cell colors), but without removing the entire theme as SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen does.  Also, I think OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP has no effect as of OO 3.2.0.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

After getting pcmanfm working around the GTK bug, I updated my system with pacman -Su --ignore=openoffice-base   Unfortunately, OO then wouldn't start because it wanted /usr/lib/libicudata.so.42 instead of the newer .44 (and other similar libs).  Creating shortcuts didn't help - I then got an error about an undefined symbol.  So I was forced to upgrade OO to 3.2.0 to get it to start.

Odd that this would happen - doesn't sound like the dependencies listed for OO are correct.  I haven't had a problem saving thus far but at least I can explore the problem a bit more.

I'm on the same position as IgnorantGuru. Please inform any progress on this subject, for this is keeping me from updating my system since several days.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I have had same problem. In my case problem was concern with xfce-clipman plugin (clipboard manager) - when I remove it from my panel everything work great.

Then I have started searching and I found this package in aur - openoffice-base-bin http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28637

I have installed this and now every thing works well - with clipman.

Regards

P.S English is not my native language.

Maybe this means something Arch is doing to patch OO is causing the problem?  Someone said the go version doesn't have this problem either - I may check out what that version is about.  If it's only Arch's package doing this then an Arch bug should be filed.

Since upgrading to 3.2.0-3, I have now had one crash on saving.  Unlike previous times it was a crash instead of a hang.  Probably unrelated but also new, when I try opening any odt file on an NFS share, it freezes on the splashscreen, then after about a minute tells me the file is locked by an unknown user (which it shouldn't be).  This program is really becoming unusable.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

Since we are not moving so much here and in our office everybody starts bashing OpenOffice, yesterday I replaced openoffice by go-openoffice. It seems there is no more problem! Everybody tried the "proofed to crash" candidates and it looks all right. Go-openoffice is truly a nice variation of openoffice and in the Arch "extra" repository. I just don't know why the language files are just available in AUR. Anyway, whoever is tiered of the crashes may try this solution.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I too am trying go-oo - so far so good.  Also, the NFS lock problem was due to statd not running on the server.
