Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I'm using now "extra/go-openoffice 3.2.0.9-2" with "aur/xfce4-clipman-plugin-passive 1.1.3-3" and so far it works wery well.

When I was using "extra/xfce4-clipman-plugin 1.1.3-1" OOO crashed every time I was copying sth.

I don't know how it looks in Gnome or another DE.

THANKS to whomever recommended go-openoffice.  No more crashes!

No.

It's really strange, because in 5 minutes it could be solved, I don't understand why the Arch developpers haven't corrected this, yet they only need not to apply their patches, and it wouldn't never crash again because of this, like in this AUR package:

http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28637

I've installed this version for a few weeks, and it's working fine.

I have the version from Extra on another computer, and it's still crashing when saving.

I've just opened this task on the bug tracker, you can vote for it if you wish:

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I voted it up. This shouldn't pass unnoticed just because go-oo is an easy solution for some people. Especially if it is an error easily fixed.

This reminds me of Ubuntu - broken software due to dist patches and backports, etc.  I hope this isn't a new trend in Arch.

go has been working fine without a crash, but I do think should be resolved - voted.

That package is the upstream binary and Arch's package is being built using system libraries. It may not be as simple as removing the patches and having everything just work. AndyRTR was quite clear about this in the bug tracker. This is why he asked the community to help him figure it out.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

yes, sorry, I read the PKGBUILD too fast, noticing only the patches and not the fact it was not build from source. I should also have noticed it was installed quite quickly, but I was doing something else meanwhile. So it can't really be fixed in 5 minutes if the problem is because of the building environment on Archlinux.

There is still this crash/hang problem in the latest release 3.2.1 so I'm using koffice for the few spreadsheet editions I need.

Thanks for the tip, I was going crazy with that same bug.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

Clearly, the problem has not been solved. I'm having this problem right konw.

Strangely, I don't remember to have observed this problem with openoffice 3.2.0, but right know I'm observing this freezing very often on small oocalc files. This very annoying!

I also observed that if I run other instance of openoffice, oowriter for example, this window is also freezed!

It looks like a very bad bug!

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

Be careful with go-openoffice. It's much worse. I had the same problem and switch back again to go-openoffice and I lost a file when copying directly from calc to writer! I had to try up to steps 3 of
http://www.andybrain.com/archive/mb/ope … covery.htm and I lost figures, math formulas!

Is there a simple way to downgrade?

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

Harey, could you upload a file which could crash openoffice ?
What actions have to be done in order to crash openoffice with that file ?
We may try to reproduce?

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

My Open Office is also suffering from this freeze-on-save problem. I tried installing GO-Open Office and even though it's better, it still froze now and again. It's difficult to reproduce it, though.

I use GO OOO 3.2.1.3-1 and the OOO I tried was OOO 3.2.1-1. I can't really say if older versions didn't do this for me, because my Arch installation is relatively new (I have it since mid-May or something).

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

Hi,

I have the same problem as described here, it only happens when using Linux, because I usually share the same file between Windows and Linux, and in Windows the problem it never happens.

In my case, I can reproduce the error when saving to a USB pendrive.

Is there any other solution than changing to Go-OOO?

Regards.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

I also switched to go-openoffice. Now its not maintained anymore.
Problem still exists for me in openoffice and libreoffice!

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

libreoffice thus far has not shown this problem for me.  Also, a few months ago I decided to rebuild one of my spreadsheets from scratch to avoid this problem in the regular openoffice, but I still encountered the hang on saving even though I copied no elements from the old spreadsheet.  So apparently this problem is not limited to saving spreadsheets created on older versions.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

there is a bug i found in which the radiix symbol used, if different from the one being used in a cell, would crash the spreadsheet.

see if that is your issue. i resolved in setting it to a dot. [.] in the openoffice options.

Re: openoffice crashes hard on saving existing *.ods documents

First of all, Merry Christmas everybody!

Concerning the crash in Ooo:
I switched to libreoffice 3.3.0.1 ArchLinux build-1 because this seems to be the new mainline. It has not produced the crash by now. When I had the crash on a spreadsheet I saved it as an excel 97 file and back to .ods and the crash was gone. This was a workaround but it saved me a lot of time.
