Re: Free Arch Linux Shell Account

Hi, I would like one too, for the learning experience (thinking of VPN). No LDAP and SQL needed.

Yeah here just look in the configuration file. Specifically the configuration is in /etc/httpd/hosts/index.conf. The web server root is /srv/httpd, so then have a look at /HEADER.html (relative to the root). The stylesheet is at /index.css and the Javascript that performs the necessary manipulations is at /index.js. Oh and of course the Prototype library is necessary. The icons are in /icons; I stole those from Tango and GNOME. I really should throw all of that in a Git repository and put it on Github. In fact I might get to that this weekend.

Thank you very much, for everything. The offer, the account, the very quick setup and the information. Your kindness and willingness to share is awesome. I think the Arch community is very lucky to have you! smile

Edit: Just one last question. Where can I get the Prototype library?

Thanks,

Joel. smile

Either from /prototype.js or http://www.prototypejs.org/. I think it's also hosted on Google AJAX libraries.

Is your email 'maxexcloo@thegooglemaildomain.com'? There is no MX record for the domain.

Re: Free Arch Linux Shell Account

Hi, I'd also be interested in an account
Gregory Sanderson, gzou2000 at gmail dot com
24MB will be fine, I'm planning on using the account for checking stuff like ssh and http connections from an 'external' location, maybe the occasional python script and a bit of tunneling. I won't need any LDAP.
Many thanks for this free service !

I'm asking because googlemail.com does have a valid MX record and if I remember correctly it is not the same thing as gmail.com

Re: Free Arch Linux Shell Account

Therefore when you request an account (and also for those of you already with them), please specify which option you would like. I will offer 24MB, 96MB, and 256MB accounts.

Hey, thanks for the service, I think I will not need more than 24MB.

I have an @gmail.com address as one of my e-mail addresses, and if i send to <myusername>@googlemail.com it arrives at <myusername>@gmail.com

It would be awesome if you could update RubyGems.
$ gem update --sytem
and then to upgrade all gems:
$ gem update

All the gems are up to date. To be honest it's a hassle having RubyGems 1.3.1 but there's not a whole lot I can do about it. RubyGems is installed through Pacman as part of the 'ruby' package. If I run a

gem update --system

Then any new files created won't be under package management. So until upstream releases a version of Ruby bundled with a more recent version of RubyGems there's nothing I can do. Sorry for the inconvenience.

By the way if you are running Rails the simple fix is to edit config/boot.rb and change the line requiring RubyGems 1.3.2 to 1.3.1.

If still available, I would love to have an account with 96 MB. It will most likely be used for testing and running PHP/PostgreSQL apps.

Re: Free Arch Linux Shell Account

Have just seen the edits to your original post regarding account types. If I'm not already on one, you could drop mine down to 24MB to free up space for others. I doubt I will need anything more than that and I really don't want to be depriving anyone else of an account by taking up space that I don't require. smile

I'd also be quite satisfied with a 24MB account (not sure what mine is currently).

Re: Free Arch Linux Shell Account

Thanks everyone for giving me your space requirements. Old default is 256 MB, so bringing a single account to 24 MB helps by quite a lot; in fact you guys just made space for seven new users. New default is 96 MB.
