I think I introduced this bug with the last update, I will try to fix it this week. Also, kdemod-theme is a bit hackish, I should un-hackify it in the near future.
Great work, but I want to explain a thing:
elvaka wrote:metak wrote:It would be great to have kde 3.5 back...
I think you should port Trinity project packages to arch...
Why? My packages are based on the KDEmod-legacy ones. These are well-tested packages for Arch, and will work better than a port from Debian.
The trinity project is NOT a Debian port for kde 3.5.10. It simply is an unofficial fork that intend to continue the develop of kde 3 (actually is at version 3.5.12).
The project leader chose to create ubuntu packages, but this means nothing.
The sources (CLICK HERE-----> http://websvn.kde.org/branches/trinity/ ) are _universal_ and all distributions can use them to create their own packages
Wow! When I saw https://launchpad.net/~kde3-maintainers … /+packages I thout it was something related to Ubuntu, but now I see it is on the official kde repository!
Clearly it's necessary to migrate kdemod3 to this new version as soon as possible, I will try to do it this summer (right now i'm taking final exams). Thank you very much for your information!

That's your policy configuration for hal. Maybe kdelibs or kdebase should add/modify the needed configuration files... I will think about it.

Is there a home page for the "KDEMod3 Rebuild" project?

No, there is nothing but this thread... I'm not good at marketing.
Should I add it to the kdemod3's wiki page?

Add this line to /etc/pam.d/kdelegacy :

Fixed! And probably I won't fix any more bugs until I move from 3.5.10 to Trinity 3.5.11, wich is my next milestone.
PS: I've added a new mirror (see first post). Thank you Mark!

I have updated my existing installation od kdemod3 and everything works good! Great job! Thanks.
But on update pacman said: kdemod3-k3b-i18n-1.0.5-5-i686.pkg.tar.gz is damaged...So I skip K3B packages, old K3B works fine.

thank you¡¡
and the x86-64???

I just want to add that this is awesome, I'm so excited that someone decided to maintain kdemod3!

Good news for me : I like KDE3, which works better on my VirtualBox Arch-Server than Gnome or KDE4. I hope you will release KDE mod 3.5.11 soon. Thank you!
PS : I have found a bug too : KDE3 Control Center crashes while opening screensaver configuration. But maybe thats a problem of VirtualBox.

Agree - The only real annoying thing with the existing release is that it cannot print anymore - really looking forward to be able to upgrade kde 3.5.

First, thank you all for your replies.
About the x86_64 version: I don't have 64bit system, and the current PKGBUILDs are so hackish that probably will only work on my system... But don't worry! I'm rewriting them to use Trinity sources (KDE 3.5.11) , and I try to remove all the ugly hacks I did for the 3.5.10. I will release the PKGBUILDs and the Diffs when I'm done, please, be patient
PS: I've fixed the corrupt kdemod3-k3b-i18n package, thank you fawn!

Wow... Using the kdemod3 repo right now, it's totally functional and totally awesome. Using about 110 MB of memory, 350 if you include caching.
I honestly have no idea why KDE3 was killed. The only thing that needed replacing was ARTS, IMO.

Hi! First, I must say that this is a great idea and kdemod3 is working perfectly on my old PC. The only thing I am missing, apart from the aforementioned errors, is the network manager (knetworkmanager). I tried to build the package from AUR, but it stops with an error message. It would be nice if it were added to the repository.
Thanks.

Since people are making use of the Trinity project, it clearly isn't a waste of time for the community...
Now don't get me wrong, I would never go back to KDE3 now that I'm loving KDE4. But as far as I'm concerned, if someone does something that increases the options for a user, then the community benefits, regardless of how small the niche.
I agree!
While I find kde 4 better than kde 3, you cannot call the trinity project a waste of time. You can say that you think it is a waste of time in your opinion, but not as fact.
1.) People are using it and there are still people who prefer kde 3.5 over kde 4. So someone is filling their need. A need being met = not a waste of time.
2.) Open source developers such as I suspect for the trinity project, are likely doing this as a hobby to scratch their own itch. Since they are not being paid for it and are meeting a need, even if their own = not a waste of time.
I understand and can relate to the aggravation of seeing outdated projects forked and worked on instead o people gathering to work on the latest and greatest, but come on... a need is being met... even if you do not agree that such a need is viable.
I do want to say good work and good luck on your effort to meet this need for arch users (since trinity is a ubuntu project).
well, yeah but if that guy satisfied his itch by working on the bright and beautiful 4 then he could just iron out bugs, THAT would satisfy a whole lot more need and make the need for 3 less. Then again, I haven't seen the appeal of kde3.5 since kde4.3 came along. So I am probably biased .

Elvaka,
I upgraded to your latest kdemod3 packages, but KDE3 won't launch properly:
[darose@daroselin ~]$ /opt/kde/bin/startkde
kde-config: error while loading shared libraries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
startkde: Starting up...
/opt/kde/bin/ksplash: error while loading shared libraries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/opt/kde/bin/kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libacl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation.
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
/opt/kde/bin/ksmserver: error while loading shared libraries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
ERROR: Couldn't attach to DCOP server!
startkde: Shutting down...
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
Error: Can't contact kdeinit!
artsshell: error while loading shared libraries: libaudiofile.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.
Not sure why it's getting those missing library errors, as they all seem to be installed:
[darose@daroselin ~]$ ls -l /usr/lib/libart_lgpl_2.so.2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Apr 1 2010 /usr/lib/libart_lgpl_2.so.2 -> libart_lgpl_2.so.2.3.21
[darose@daroselin ~]$ ls -l /usr/lib/libacl.so.1
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/libacl.so.1: No such file or directory
[darose@daroselin ~]$ ls -l /lib/libacl.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Apr 11 09:15 /lib/libacl.so.1 -> libacl.so.1.1.0
[darose@daroselin ~]$ ls -l /usr/lib/libaudiofile.so.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Apr 28 09:13 /usr/lib/libaudiofile.so.0 -> libaudiofile.so.0.0.2
Any idea what the problem could be?
