tjwoosta has built a new user-style for the Arch site. It is not quite finished for the Wiki & AUR, but it looks great imho on them as well (still a bit bright on the AUR).

The code can be found here, (I don't think he will get pissed off with me pointing to his unfinished work):

Can the already visited link color be changed so some soft grey? And the quick post box is an off cream?

Say what you want about me, I think the old forum look was better. Simpler. This new one is all "bling"...

Is it only me, or did everything got a lot bigger with the new layout for other folks? Not zoomed out, I can barely fit 3 posts on the screen..

Re: New look for Arch website?

I generally avoid commenting on stuff, but I have to agree with naysayers on this one. The previous site was much simpler, much more professional-looking and much easier on the eyes. The redesigned version seems somewhat poor and rough around the egdes. Maybe it's just me, but it's got a blog-like feeling to it. Furthermore, the colours and the contrast on bbs produce an eyestrain.
I'm sorry the change took place and, yes, I'm very aware that I'm just going to have to bite the bullet.

+1, text is bigger for no reason, and the cream and green boxes don't make any sense with the rest of the design, and they really hurt the eyes.

I'd be very happy with the old design in darker colours, actually I'd rather the old design as it was.

I like it, but the yellow text frames could be more greyish, also on the front page the "arch blue" package search is _really_ annoying, hurts my eyes.

I agree, the cream & green boxes were a little hard on my eyes.

With tjwoosta's "Archlinux Dark (tjw)" user-style the new forum changes are now fine by me, easy fix really.

Re: New look for Arch website?

Sorry if this is already a known issue, but I just noticed that when you search for packages, theres no visual cue that its been marked out-of-date.

For example: http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?q=tint2

Now you have to click the package link to check.

Ahh ok that isn't so bad. Now if the link colors and background color could be changed I think we'd have a killer here.

I think "#F4FFFF" is a much better background color.
Along with '#5F5F5F' for a visted links

Here is a user style I wrote to apply the changes

EDIT: put script on user styles

Re: New look for Arch website?

First, the new forum style looks nice and I like especially the visited links colour. Besides, for me everything doesn't look bigger than before.

Allan wrote:

Nice that they are there, but how are they constructed? In the HTML source I can find a <div> containing another one with replaced text:

<div class="icon inew"><div class="nosize">There are new posts</div></div>

but I can't find any background images (or an image sprite), nor any special characters representing an arrow.

Re: New look for Arch website?

The way its done is they made a small triangle with the div.inew and div.icon border colors in the css, there is no image involved.

could be in the icon inew class definition in css

that's a nice light color scheme for the pages, thanks!  it really brings out the "lavender" when you switch it back to the normal style...

Re: New look for Arch website?

Thank you for the new look of the web site and the search for a better layout and color patterns.
The colors are well rendered on my Samsung SyncMaster T190 monitor ; the #eeeeff background doesn't look purple on that screen, but as a light blueish gray.

I find that the logo at the top is a little too small, but I understand the will to reduce lost space in pages.

Nevertheless I have a problem with some color choices in the Forums.
It strains my eyes to have to read for a long time over a purely white background, and the color choices for the Forums leads to that inconvenience, as far as I am concerned.
I prefer the colors of the LinuxQuestions.org Forums with the white background not mainly where the eyes are focused most.
So I had to use the Stylish extension and write a user style for the Forums à la LinuxQuestions.org :

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("bbs.archlinux.org") {
body {
  background-color: #ffffff !important;
}

div.box div.inbox div.postleft,
div.box div.inbox div.postright,
div.box div.inbox div.postfootleft,
div.box div.inbox div.postfootright,
div.blockpost div.box div.inbox {
background: #e4eeff !important;
}

td.tc2,
td.tc3,
td.tcmod,
#postpreview,
#viewprofile dd,
div.forminfo,
div.blockmenu div.box,
#adstats dd {
  background-color: #ffffff !important;
}

div.box div.inbox div.postright {
border-color: #e4eeff !important;
}

blockquote {
background: #ffffff !important;
}

div.box tbody tr td {
background: #e4eeff !important;
}

div.icon {
border-color: #e4eeff #e4eeff #e4eeff #dddddd !important;
}

tr.inew div.icon {
border-color: #e4eeff #e4eeff #e4eeff #1793d1 !important;
}

div.box div.inbox tbody tr td.tc2,
div.box div.inbox tbody tr td.tc3 {
background-color: #cddeee !important;
}

div#brdstats div.box div.inbox,
div#brdfooter div.box div.inbox,
div.blockform div.box {
background: #e4eeff !important;
}

}

It gives a less bright background where the eyes are focused more often.
So the reading is softer for my eyes, and at the same time I respect the color choices of the Arch site.

I would hope that this choice could be adopted officially, based on the LinuxQuestions.org Forums color model.
Does someone agree with me on this matter ?

Apart from that, congratulations for the work done on the betterment of the Arch web site.

Edit: Add color for the columns Topics and Posts or Replies and Views
Edit 2 : change #eeeeff to #e4eeff
Edit 3 : Add missing background color at the bottom of the pages
