Geesh... I go away for a little while and y'all completely up and rearrange everything! It's like coming home after vacation and finding that your roommate decided to repaint the whole apartment.
On the plus side, I really like the new look. The background is a nice very light blue, and the forum text boxes are easy to read. The quote boxes show up a little green on my screen, and the message space in the post a reply box is a nice cream color.
The main landing page is very nice, and reminds me of a few Openbox themes I've used.
Overall: A+
Thanks!
(P.S. For the next refresh, maybe a community contest, with the top five or ten on a little dropdown menu on the main page. Might be wise to have a dev written standard, like this one, for the new visitors...)
I keep getting distracted from my webserver project...
huh? oooh... shiny!

Are there any changes coming to a new forum/portal theme? I'm asking, because I want to convert it for fluxbb 1.4

I posted my ArchLinux Forums user style for the Stylish extension.
I named it ArchLinux Forums - Soft reading (berbae).
It is accessible here : http://userstyles.org/styles/31281
I made some additions to it since my post #249 above.

I like it, good job.

I think the new design is really good, the old was good to, there are always going to be people who don't like change unfortunately, but change is good. I refer you too http://web.archive.org/web/200301271137 … linux.org/
My only input: It would be nice to see "Planet" in the top bar links

I don't mind change, but I didn't like the new background color at all. A few tweaks to berbae's script above (#257) with greasemonkey (changing all #e4eeff and #cddeee to #ffffff and I think a couple other minor tweaks) made me much happier. It looks like a slightly better version of the old site so far. Many thanks. Now to do the same to the main page..
EDIT:
http://users.snowcrest.net/donnelly/fir … ts/#colors
The color chooser script here did just what I want with the main page and wiki. I edited the default * (catch all websites) to work on http://www.archlinux.org/* and http://wiki.archlinux.org/* and now I'm happy. I've not thoroughly browsed any of the above Arch links though to see if anything looks too weird though, just a quick skim

That background is much better.

For the links to the various forums on the forum main page, could they go back to changing colour when there are unread posts instead of how they are right now where they turn purple after I've visited them?

I didn't trace the last pages so my question might have been answered yet but the code blocks in the wiki are far too small in chromium.
Please give me a short feedback if you have the same problem.

Nope, do you have a screenshot?
E.g., [wiki]Beginners' Guide[/wiki] looks good to me in Chromium 5.0.342.9 (Developer Build 43360).
EDIT: No problem either in 5.0.375.55 (Developer Build 0).

Call me "Old Fashioned" but I prefer the old version better. I am a fan of simpler website design. The old design and colors seemed much more wide open and much easier to read and navigate than the new design. This is not a bash on the webdevs it's more of a personal opinion so please don't be offended. It seems everybody is offering their two cents so there's mine.
Here is a grey/white Stylish userstyle for arch I made for myself. It is by no means perfect as I did a crash course in figuring out how to write userstyles to make this. There is a load of room for improvement and really multiple userstyles need to be used for the whole website but for the most part it works pretty well with all (as far as I can tell anyway).
For anybody interested here it is: (Uncompressed for readability and Compressed for speed)
Uncompressed:

In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backward. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a very easy one, but people do not practice it much. In the everyday affairs of life it is more useful to reason forward, and so the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason synthetically for one who can reason analytically. --Sherlock Holmes

Updating my earlier comments...
I've said a couple of times earlier in this thread that I like the new design and I do, but now that I've used it for a few days I'm noticing that it doesn't look as neat overall as it used to, and it's harder to read the text for some reason but I'm hoping to simply adjust to it.
Thanks again to those that put in all the hard work.

So, I'm one of those who dislike the new style. Especially the awful light blue background. In any case, I prefer light on dark colors anyway, so here's a drop-in css I made. I used harryNIDs as a template, so thanks to him as well.
Here's the style: http://pastie.org/990806
Here's two screenshots:
enjoy!

Yeah, but it's a trade-off for (supposed) speed. As I said I ran it through a CSS optimizer program to reduce overall size and structure the code to run faster. Theoretically it's supposed to render the CSS slightly faster. Overall I seem to notice an ever so slight increase in web page loading by using it. Where this trick shines most is with huge userstyles where it's easy to see the difference. No, it's not pretty and you obviously would have a hard time adding to it or adjusting it so that is why I keep an uncompressed one to work on. When I get done tweaking I just run it through the optimizer again for everyday use.

You can please some people all the time, some people some of the time, but you can't please all people all the time.
For me, the blue is an improvement over the former color.

Yeah, UI design is hard, color choice is hard, but the best advice I have is: go with how it looks, not what the code says. If you get what I mean.

Tip of the day: if the text seems larger, smaller, bolder, lighter, easier to read or harder to read, it's because the new design doesn't specify a typeface...it uses whatever font your browser is set to for sans serif. Change your browser preferences and the sites will respect it.
