Tis a shame, I hope the laughing man Wallpaper won't take much RAM.

It's even more slim than fluxbox O_O, now I'm really confused why e17 is still hiding in obscurity?

Re: Enlightenment Experience

Simple: it is not even alpha yet, and Enlightenment was (and still is for some people) known by being mostly vaporware. But the Enlightenment devs finally realized that if they keep lazy, no one will ever use it. As you can see in the Enlightenment website, they are running up to an alpha release later in this year, and E17 is already _really_ stable. And when bugs occour, you simply press <F1> big_smile

You mean Duke Nukem Forever(in Development)?

What happens when you hit <F1>, instant restore button?

When e17 crash, simply by pressing F1 restarts the desktop without closing any open application. Anyway, with the last update so far had no problems.

Re: Enlightenment Experience

Back when I used openSUSE, I tried out a version that came with E17. For me, on my laptop, it was pretty fast.

However, lack of an E17 community and lack of any populated E17 hangout (like box-look.org) got the best of me.

I've found that so long as you stay away from ecomorph, you'll be good.

I disagree with you say about ecomoprh, I use it without problems. It even works faster than Compiz.

I have yet to get ecomorph working for any distro I have ever tried... so I will have to agree with Him over gefarion

Re: Enlightenment Experience

true, the last time I tried ecomorph it was a time bomb, but it is a few years ago.

I probably tried the alpha ver. at that time.

Have you tried the latest build CPUnitd?

Re: Enlightenment Experience

yes, I have tried the newest of ecomorph and ecomorph-git and both refuse to work on my ATI or Nvidia graphics cards (HD4200 on laptop and ION nettop)

Re: Enlightenment Experience

I'm not surprised with ATI, but Nvidia?

I don't know if it matters or not, but OS Driver or Prop Driver?

Re: Enlightenment Experience

Prop in both cases... thing is, one of the devs over at Unity Linux says they have been able to get it running just fine on an ATI laptop... so I don't know what the quirk is with this piece of software, but it seems pretty picky about what it wants to work with...

Re: Enlightenment Experience

if you're asking me, bimozx, then no... I haven't touched an intel GPU in at least 3 years... and compiz (all forms) worked, but was horrible for desktop swtiching if there was a video playing... don't think ecomorph was even being conceived back then tongue

Re: Enlightenment Experience

If you're talking about two years ago I think it's born already, but three years that's a long time.

But basic E17 compositing works fine on your comp, right?

Re: Enlightenment Experience

the basic stuff works ok, with a little bit of artifact-stuff (both ATI & Nvidia), but it is fully functional for what I know...

Re: Enlightenment Experience

e17 is on my laptop... so technically, it is used for personal and work... but I do not work in a place where computers are used at all by myself or my direct coworkers... only by management and upper level staff... if these upload, here are a couple of screenshots of what I mean by "artifacts" it's hard to describe, but if you look at the system tray (on the right of the screen) you can see where the compositing feature of focusing on a window and "bouncing" it leaves odd lighting changes that are temporary... if I open something fullscreen and then close it, the changes are gone... it only effects windowed things...

looks like I can't simply do a direct upload to the forum, so I will place them on my website and post the links later today...

Re: Enlightenment Experience

That problem is with the Bling transparency yes? I have the same issue, but when I turn the transparency off, it looks much better.
