Unsuccessful burning live USB .img from Windows [solved]

First I want to say that I've made this work before using
flashnul -L archlinux-2008.06-ftp-i686.img G:

When I did this before, I noted that it shrank the partition size on my USB device to ~147MB, the size of the .img file.  Clearly it successfully wrote over the partition table of the flash drive, and when I rebooted I was able to boot from it.

Now I'm doing this again, and for some reason this same method does not seem to work.  I invoke the same command, and yet I see no indication that the partition table on the flash drive ever changes.  When I reboot, the flash drive LED blinks as if the motherboard is polling it for something to boot, but then skips over it and proceeds to fire up Windows on the internal HDD.  I have tried this with two separate USB flash devices, and I have also tried dd for Windows:
dd --progress if=archlinux-2008.06-ftp-i686.img of=\\.\g:

Any ideas as to why I can't seem to get a Live USB image working suddenly?  The boot priority hasn't changed - USB still precedes IDE0, the internal hard drive.  I have also tried re-downloading the .img file in case mine was somehow corrupt.

Thanks

Did you validate the md5 of the downloaded file against the published hashes?

Re: Unsuccessful burning live USB .img from Windows [solved]

I have, and it matches.

[edit]
Well, I managed to circumvent the problem.  I used unetbootin to install Puppy to the flash drive (it was the only one I could think of off the top of my head which loads the entire OS into RAM), then from within Puppy fdisk'd the flash drive and used dd to copy the image.  All works well, now.  I'm still not sure what Windows' problem was...

Thanks anyway!
