In my search for linux podcasts I found this "MintCast" (http://mintcast.org/), which is as they say in the site "a podcast by the Linux Mint community for all users of Linux". I've listen to it and is fairly good. It's of course focused on Mint but they touch on more general linux stuff.
Here is an idea. What about a podcast for Arch, focused mainly on Arch. It could contain things like the news in the newsletter (news, tips ans tricks...), it could also include wiki pages (at least the short ones) like "how to set up numlock at startup" or "install xfce" or things like that.
I know that is hard work on sound editing and stuff like that, but if someone could actually work on something like that it'd be great.
Thank you.

Where is "Someone" when we need him?
I know, I know. It's easy to ask for things. I know most people are in the same situation: no time, no skills...
I just wanted to throw out the idea. Maybe, just maybe, there are some people around with the skills and time to do it.
And if they use some of the suggestions above filling the content shouldn't be a problem.
The work would go on recording, editing... or whatever needs doing.
Let's hope for the best!

I would definitely subscribe
Talk about any recent major package updates, goings-on on the forums, maybe an Arch-centric HOWTO every now and again, recent cool scripts found, stuff that's happening with Arch that most people don't regularly read (mailing lists, case in point being the new 2009.01 release) tech industry news a little... sounds fun!
I am way too busy, but it would be nice if someone isn't and feels up to it

I prefer text-based systems (eg newsletter > podcast), they are more "overviewable", you can only read specific parts, you can search through them, KISS, etc.
The newsletter maintainer was quite busy AFAIK so maybe one could try to help out with that...
In the end, I would listen though.

I would love it, listen to it, but I certainly don't expect it...

So, it seems it's not gonna happen.
I could only try.
Maybe someone in a few months think of it again!!

You could run the Arch Linux forums or Arch News RSS feeds though Odiogo, and subscribe to the podcast.

Isnt podcasts an Apple thing?
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Wow this looks sweet. I'm not gonna use it because of the before mentioned reasons, but still.. nice concept.

I think the technical term that people are trying to use is "netcast", in recognition of the fact that "podcast" is indeed "an Apple thing".
In light of Kleenex, Coke, et all, good luck changing the usage of popular vocabulary.

Oh well!! Maybe another time then.

I've been wanting to contribute to Linux for years and this sounds like something I might be able to participate in. I'm a little busy this week but probably next week I could write a script and record it, then it would be up to others to contribute hosting, web page, and some music and intro's would be nice.
A warning though if I do this I'm going to have fun with it and it is not going to be like any other Linux podcast I've ever heard.
Anyone interested?

I can edit the recorded audio and get it all together into one file... Hosting could be done on something like: http://podcastaloud.com/

Hi I'm glad this might work.
Just one thing. Do you tink it'll be too crazy to actually ask to host the podcast whithin the arch linux website?
Otherwise another option to add to the list could be blogger, or some of the suggestions here:

One other thing. If this finally happens, when we have the mp3s or oggs, could we find a nice way to name the files and fill the tags.
There's nothing more annoying than having 10 files from the same podcast with different naming systems and different tags for everything.
I could do the tagging if that is practical in any way or annoying to whoever does the sound editing.
Also, it would be a good idea if the project is not left to just one person. One might take the lead but it'll be good if other people volunteer
to record some segments for the podcast. I could actually do something like that every now and then, e.g. add a little how-to on something
that might be helpful or related to the main theme for that episode. The more the merrier and if the leading person becomes too busy (as it's
happened with many podcasters) then the project doesn't die with him/her.
I don't know how many of you listen to the Distrowatch podcast, but that is basically someone just reading the weekly newsletter and is still great.
So it doesn't have to be difficult to colaborate, just comment on an interesting thread of the forums, or read an (short) article from the wiki that has
helped you, maybe with your own personal touches. That could be cool, and since Arch is a
DIY distro, talking on how to do, tweak, setup... things this seems quite appropriate as a part of an Arch podcast.
And I'll stop here. I can give some more ideas, but since I won't be the one taking the project I don't want to impose anything on anyone.

As an example of what I said above listen to this episode of "Hacker public radio" where the guy actually does just that
using the PulseAudio article on the archlinux wiki

I have a podcast where I review distros. It was known as SourceCast for awhile, but just recently became DistroCast. We're both fairly big ArchLinux homers. While it isn't ArchLinux specific, we do ruminate over it frequently.

Hi georgia_tech_swagger
Yes I know, I have actually listened to most of your episodes, and they're good
but it wasn't what I had in mind in this case.
Nevermind, sooner or later it'll happen (I guess!)
