Well can anyone tell a big difference? I just finished the perfect "formula" for my custom 2.6.28 kernel about 3 weeks ago! I'm going to miss .28...

Careful, networking seems to be broken http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.ker … cus=811417.

Yup ... Noticed this. All of a sudden, the network just stopped working out of nowhere. Had to restart. Happened three times in a row, so ... Back to 2.6.28.8

Re: Linux Kernel 2.6.29 released!

I read that starting with 2.6.29 the kernel will contain some experimental technology to make the kernel boot faster by using asynchronous function calls. Supposedly these features can be enabled by appending "fastboot" to the kernel boot parameters in GRUB/LILO. There's an article about it somewhere on LWN. Since so many people around here seem to be interested in cutting boot times, I was wondering if anyone had tried it?

P.S. This is an experimental feature I think so I'm definitely not encouraging you to use something that might murder your system or anything ;-)

Will KMS be enabled by default in Arch?

X doesn't work well with kernel-KMS enabled when there's no compatible driver, so i guess (hope) not since only Intel works for now.

Running a KMS-enabled X without kernel-KMS should not be a problem though.

Lol.

Well other than that. I heard this is in testing. I updated ABS and I don't see it...

Re: Linux Kernel 2.6.29 released!

Haven't tried the kernel in testing, but my own compiled 2.6.29 kernel breaks my wireless connection (intel wireless 3945ABG) and judging from the various threads around internet it isn't my kernel options that are the cause but a regression/bug (from my brief glances it seems possibly something to do with code concerning SSID).

flack 2.0.6: menu-driven BASH script to easily tag FLAC files (AUR)
knock-once 1.2: BASH script to easily create/send one-time sequences for knockd (forum/AUR)

So far, after about an hour and a half of uptime, there have been no network problems for me with the 2.6.29 kernel in testing.

Re: Linux Kernel 2.6.29 released!

It was mentioned on the mailing list and I'll bring it up here because it happened to me. All four of my ext4 partitions threw the "primary superblock features different from backup" error and ran the disk check. Three out of four were on the second boot after installing the new kernel, that last on the third. I searched around and most of the hits were related to ext4-dev (or whatever it was called). Is anyone else here seeing this?
