I just reinstalled arch using the ftp iso and installed xfce following the wiki and xfce wont start with "startxfce4" or .xinitrc,
X flashes then loads back to cli and gives me these errors:
/etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc: line 84: 5578 Aborted $xfcesm
Waiting for X server to shut down FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1 ; fixing.
I've tried reinstalling arch twice I get the same errors, Xfce was working fine before reinstall with everything updated. And openbox works on this install.
Also I tried to install firefox "pacman -S firefox" to post on forums but firefox wouldn't start eather and I get this error:
[ash@breakage ~]$ firefox
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information. Here's the errors in Xorg.0.log:
(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)

(EE) Failed to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0)
FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
And errors from ERRORS.log:

Mar 1 08:01:35 gconfd (ash-5774): I can't write to '/tmp/orbit-ash', ORB init failed
I've followed the wiki closely both times and I don't know whats wrong. I miss my arch install
Could this error have something to do with this http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=43898
Edit: It was a /tmp permission error, i've fixed it with chmod -R 777 tmp but as things have already messed up and I dont trust the ftp iso, im reinstalling with core iso.

Just a quick FYI: The correct permissions for /tmp on most *nix systems is not 777, but instead 1777.
