Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

No, its still seems to be impossible to package phonon the right way.

Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

Just updated. Please take a look at this screenshot and tell me if the highlighted portions are intended/if you are also experiencing them.

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/2664/kde43.jpg

1) HUGE status icons in kopete
2) semi transparent white squares over systray/task manager.. don't tell me the tray artifacts from 4.2 are back
3) captions in task manager.. black writing on black background? brilliant!
4) minor gripe - is it just me or did the device notifiert icon get uglier? it looks blurred on my screen, and definitely worse than the old one.

Edit: all issues (except 4) solved, see below

Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

i just upgraded my system, and it seems that there is an issue with libjpeg. In order for gwenview, and other kde apps to run, newer libjpeg from testing is needed.

The problem is that with libjpeg from testing, packages as firefox, amsn etc, are not compatible with it.

it needed xulrunner from testing and now is fine.

amsn needed rebuilding from abs, and now runs fine.

1 )the status icons are perfeclty fine -> there is a new dialogue to configure the look of the contact list. the default is a 2 line look, which makes the icons bigger.. simply remove the second line and it looks as before.

2) my tray is fine, maybe its related to 3)

3) please change plasma theme to something else and then back to air...

4) cant see the device notifier applet on your screen. looks just fine here.

Sure it is possible. But based on mutuality you should figure that out for yourself wink

venky80 wrote:

Since some internal builds (and the first public one currently being uploaded in kdemod-testing) we are using Qt's phonon in combination with just the backends from KDE's phonon, resulting in:

- qtmod providing phonon core
- some addidional packages providing the backends:
  kdemod-phonon-backend-gstreamer
  kdemod-phonon-backend-xine

Works fine, also in combination with Arch [extra] packages (amarok etc) smile

want a modular and tweaked KDE for arch? try kdemod

Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

The problem is that video tags in webkit only work with gstreamer backend and kaffeine (dvb) only works with xine backend. So we have exactly the situation that should be avoided by phonon and even worse: You cannot use both backends at the same time.

Well phonon makes it easy for the developer of an application to easily build for all backends. Sadly all backends are kinda... how to put it... incomplete.

Amarok is another example: replaygain only works with gstreamer - while proper fading only works with xine... FAIL

Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

in todays upgrade,  qt from kde-unstable, wants phonon to be removed and gstreamer to be installed. is it normal?? what happens with apps like amarok2 wich have phonon as a depedency?

edit:

i tried rebuilding amarok2-svn with no phonon support, but it fails to work with gstreamer backend.

Amarok2 without phonon does not make sense except you don't want to hear any sound. :-) Did you install the right gstreamer plugins?

Hi Pierre,

thanks for tip! Which plugins I must have? I have only gstreamer0.10-base-plugins installed.

Thanks.

Re: conversation about kde 4.3 rc and kde-unstable repository

That depends on your files. You could install the whole group to check if it works at all.
