But have you tried increasing the size of the panel ?

When size>24, gnome-panel gets really ugly anyway

Hi i have this icon theme from gnome look:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … tent=91098
My problem is that there is no black-red icon set in /usr/share/icons to change my start-here.png. I searched for hiden files in the directory or another name of the folder with no luck... Can somebody find and tell me where is that folder?
Thanks

Odd. I never did any of this and my GNOME menubar has the Arch logo by default.

I know this has been marked [solved], but I wanted to throw out an alternative method that doesn't require root access and can be easily reversed.
If you create a directory in ~/.icons with the same name as the icon set you're using, you can more easily replace the menu icon.
If, for example, you're using the Tango icon set, create a folder like so:
mkdir -p ~/.icons/Tango/24x24/places
and copy your start-here.png into that directory.
Follow that with
pkill gnome-panel
and the icon is replaced.
At least, it works for me with Gnome 2.26.3. Posted this alternate method to the wiki.
I used this method to change the Gnome foot to a grinning 24x24-pixel devil. For the gnome iconset, it's the only folder & image I have in ~/.icons/gnome.
[EDIT] To give credit where it's due, Proxima Centauri mentioned this method in an offhanded way, as did jasonwryan.
