My computer hasn't been online for many weeks, so I ran a system update today. After the update, Amarok is unable to start, giving this error:
amarok: error while loading shared libraries: libtag-extras.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
KDE was updated, but Amarok wasn't. Amarok version is 2.1.1-1. I've tried searching for libtag but wasn't able to find anything useful. How can I fix this?

install taglib-extras. It's a depends for amarok. I don't know why it's not on your system but there has been mirror sync problems lately so that might be related.

strange, i had the exact same problem after i updated the other day.

taglib-extras was already installed and up to date, but a reinstallation fixed the issue. Thanks

Hi, my system is up to date but i have this exact bug since today. I've tried to reinstall everything (amarok and taglib-extras) to no avail. I've tried several repos to check for a sync issue but it doesn't seem to be that. Is anyone having the same problem?

Same here. Can't say since when exactly, but I guess it's been only a day or two.

Same problem here. Amarok needs to be recompiled.

Same thing here... Tried to reinstall but didnt help. libtag-extra is installed, but it think amarok is looking for it in somewhere else.
[ricardo@pcricardo ~]$ amarok
amarok: error while loading shared libraries: libtag-extras.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[ricardo@pcricardo ~]$ locate libtag-extras.so
/usr/lib/libtag-extras.so
/usr/lib/libtag-extras.so.0
/usr/lib/libtag-extras.so.0.1.0

Same here, I just updated and now amarok will not start.
I tried reinstalling taglib-extras-1.0.1-1 but it did not help.
EDIT: Just found the temporary solution in one of the threads linked above.
Run
$ sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/taglib-extras-0.1.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
to revert back to the old version and amerok will start once again

Thanks for the fix. Was it an arch-only problem? If so, i guess in a couple of days a new version will hit mirrors.

@varg04444- you can find older version of arch package here: http://schlunix.org/archlinux/
Looks like a bug report has been assigned.

Hi, I just update my system and i saw that had a new version of amarok (2.1.90) and i updated taglib too. The new version of amarok solves the problem (at least for Arch x86_64).
