flash problems after todays update

Hi,

After I Syu'd today, flash videos/applets in all browsers have become non interactive e.g. the buttons don't work. Sometimes they work, but for the most part clicking on them shows the click animation, but the action isn't carried out. Browsers I've tried are Firefox/Chrome/Opera, happens on all websites. Would appreciate any help.

If it helps, I have the following GTK installed:

local/gtk2 2.18.2-1
    The GTK+ Toolkit (v2)

I do NOT use testing and I can click the buttons on youtube that the bug report says doesn't work. I am on x86_64, but have a 32-bit machine at work I can try tomorrow if that is an issue -- though yesterday it was working just fine. Is there anything I can list from my packages or something that may help? Oh, I am also running Compiz on Gnome 2.28 and am using Firefox.

yes, i have the same problem. i am using xfce4.

it should caused by gtk 2.18. but use different window manager have different results.

like xfwm, openbox will not have such problem.

BTW: before upgrade, i can switch workspace by turn the wheel even upon conky, but now i can't do it upon conky, other emply space on desktop is still ok.

PS: i also got mouse grab/ungrap problem with vmware. seems gtk 2.18 really changed a lot.

Thanks a lot for the info guys - I'd rather get flashplugin working than switch so am going to try downgrading gtk.

Same problem. I just downgraded gtk2, and it worked fine.

Hmm... if you installed GTK+ 2.16 into a separate folder, could LD_PRELOAD allow you to force Firefox to use GTK+ 2.16?

I checked to see if flashplugin (64bit) was having problems on my system after reading this thread and sure enough stuff like pausing wasn't working on any site. I used it as an opportunity to try gnash again, so I un-installed flashplugin. gnash still isn't good enough to use even for my limited Flash use, so I got rid of it and reinstalled flashplugin. Everything works correctly wherever I tried it. Hmmm?

Reinstalling doesn't work here, either. Downgraded to 2.16.5-1 for now. x86_64.

I'm using 2.18.3 from extra. I just tried again right now and controls are working. I seldom use anything Flash, so these tests are just quickly checking out stuff. I may (must?) be just getting lucky.

2.18.3 does fix it in some cases, but youtube is still broken for me. I'm not sure what the exact conditions are as I tested only a few videos until I encountered the bug again, but it seems that the embedded player works, but HD videos don't. It's still not fixed, though, so I downgraded again.

Little workaround for current version of Flash and GTK and Firefox: i want to interact with Youtube videos (plau, pause, etc.) i need to rightclick the Flash video (context menu visible) and then i need to left klick twice (a bit faster than an ordinary doubleclick) at the position i want to click.

If you've got the packages cached (in /var/cache/pacman/pkg) you can reinstall them with pacman -U, though you'll need to determine what to downgrade via trial and error. If you don't have them cached, use the Arch Rollback Machine (http://arm.kh.nu/extra::2009-10-12/os/x86_64/ or http://arm.kh.nu/extra::2009-10-12/os/i686/ being the last day that gtk2 worked with Flash) to find the packages you need. When I downgraded my packages, I had to fetch 26 individual packages, the majority for gnome/gtk, as well as applications that depend on them, like Firefox.

I was reading the Flash Plugin Bug and Issue Management system. On Bug #FP-2933 one of the Flash developers recommends the following:
% export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1

Apparently, this new gtk feature can be toggled in such a way that it does not interfere with Flash. It seems that if you start firefox like this:
% GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 firefox

the flash/>=gtk2.18 mouse clicking and keyboard interaction problem disappears. I recommend doing so until the Flash Linux plugin is fixed for gtk2.18.
