I configured pidgin according to the wiki, but I'm getting a "Not authorized" error... from the debug window I'm getting this (Log in pastebin).
I've checked and re-checked the password a lot of times and that is not the problem and I've installed the cyrus-sasl-plugins
and cyrus-sasl packages and in the error I'm not receiving a 503 error.
The only weird thing is that when I uncheck the option "Allow plaintext auth over unencrypted streams" and I try to connect it asks me:
USER@chat.facebook.com/Pidgin requires plaintext authentication over an unencrypted connection. Allow this and continue authentication?"
If I click no, it stops and if I click Yes it shows me the previous error. Any ideas?
I'm using Pidgin 2.7.1-1.

I tried same thing as you yesterday and i had same error. It was wrong password. But in your case it looks like wrong username. Is it USER? Look on this page, click on pidgin and find out whats your facebook username. http://www.facebook.com/sitetour/chat.php

Install the plugin from the aur, it'll prompt you to enter two words when you first log in, hit cancel and log into fb in your browser... then it'll be configured http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34479

Ok... I guess that would work.... stilll it's weird because it's supposed to work using xmpp. In fact, even the wiki says it works.

fb changed privacy settings and I can't work out how to let 3rd party apps other than their own coded ones access it

Hm... so are you saying that the plugin won't work?

no, sorry... it's late here. The plugin complains on first run, but then comes good with a fb login. There's a thread on ubuntuforums about security settings and xmpp. Apparently there is a setting somewhere in the facebook user settings that will allow it, but the plugin is officially supported, so it just works.
Searching fb help showed the settings for xmpp though, so?

Pidgin 2.7.3 and still the issue persists. Client or server side issue?

My brother got this error then I went to this link http://www.facebook.com/sitetour/chat.php
When I clicked on pidgin it said to press here to logout then when i logged in again it worked in pidgin.

Finally I found that the error was some character in the password. I changed it and now works.
