man pacman.conf and look at the Architecture section.   Or use "linux32" when entering your chroot.

Re: arch i686 chroot...pacman now only wants to use i686 pkgs

We will need more info...

What is pacman32 aliased too?   What do have set in your Architecture option in your pacman.conf (in and out of your chroot)?   What does "uname -m" say (in and out of your chroot)?  What is your primary server in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist (both in and out of your chroot)?

Can you post the first entry in your /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist?
