KDE performance with nvidia card

Hi,

I've seen several threads about issues with kwins performance under nvidia cards.

Since I also have sluggish performance (opening the menu is laggy, maximizing windows and switching between them, too...) with my 7600GT (AGP) and the current driver 256.35 (also with older versions) I read the threads but I still don't know if it's just my old system that can't work with kwin. But than again, compiz works like a charm so is there anything I can do for a smooth KDE experience?

Currently I have just this configuration:

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf
Section "Device"
        Identifier "Default nvidia Device"
        Driver "nvidia"
EndSection

TIA for your help

Re: KDE performance with nvidia card

Thanks for the link, but playing around with InitialPixmapPlacement and GlyphCache made it even worse sad

Re: KDE performance with nvidia card

HAve you tried Initial pixmap placement 3 and 1 as well? Also have you tried adding those options for the device section of xorg.conf? I also have to ask whether you have carefully follwoed the instructions here:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA

If you have then my ideas are very limited as the driver is a proprietary binary blob and so  I can only suggest complaining to nvidia about it.
