Is gamin required? (using gnome)

Do i need to install it? The beginner's guide says to install gamin instead of fam randomly out of the blue.

From what I've read, it seems to allow for live filesystem modification notices. For example, if a file was changed in one app, and you also have the file open in gedit, then gedit will be able to notice that the file has been changed and ask you wish to reload it. etc.

Is this true, or have i misread?

Re: Is gamin required? (using gnome)

is only needed by gnome-vfs and that is a deprecated lib. for gedit and nautils gamin/fam is not needed.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
