[Solved] Counter Strike Crashes when joining a server

Hello, I have been running Steam (and of course Counter Strike) through wine for quite a while. However, after the new Steam release I am unable to join any games in Counter Strike 1.6 - other steam games seem to work fine.

What happens is that I can enter CS, enter the console and everything, even get the servers, but when I try to join, hl.exe hangs, and I have to kill the process.

I have tried deleting the steam folder, running with and without any mods in counter strike, updating wine to newest revision, tried locking the motd files (as described on winehq).

Also I have tried switching between ALSA/OSS audiodrivers in wine.

I have tried everything I can think of, and run through just about every hit that google provides me. But still no luck. I hope that you have an idea to help me on the way, if not, I might have to wait Until steam releases a client for linux ..

PunkBuster under steam is IFFY at best; could it be a PB issue?

PLEASE read and try to FIX/FILE BUGS instead of assuming other have/will.

Probably not; CS shouldn't be using PB since valve has their own VAC system.

But at any rate, starting steam from a console and catching the output as it's crashing could be of some use.

Agreed. I cannot reproduce this problem.

Solution:
It seems it was a problem with running wine as if it were Windows 7, I changed this to XP and it ran right away.
