Hi, would appreciate if anyone could give me some help with this.
Came home about a week ago and was having problems with my /var partition. Couldn't start x or anything.
I managed to get the partition mounting again like normal using fsck.
That got x and the other stuff working. Was still having a few problems, but have been too busy to sort them out.
During the week I did a
pacman -Sccto try and fix something.
Now when I try to update my system I get lots of errors such as:
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/local/git-1.7.1-1/depends: No such file or directoryI think my var partition is ok now, but I may have lost some files during the recovery. It's reiserfs.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Do you have anything in /var/lib/pacman/local/ ?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have lots of folders, totaling 21MB.
du -ch | grep -E ^0
0 ./git-1.7.1-1
0 ./audex-0.72b1-1
0 ./handbrake-0.9.4-2These folders are empty though, and I realise now that they are the ones causing the errors. There was so many errors that they filled the buffer in my terminal and I hadn't realised that it was just these packages.
I could try "touch depends" in each folder, but I'm not sure if that's the right way to fix this. I tried installing those packages and removing them, but couldn't do either because of missing files.
I just hope that the other packages are not missing files also.
I'm just going to bed, so I'll try and spend some time figuring it out tomorrow evening.
Thanks for the help.

rm those 3 folders, and -Sf the packages they were for.
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11639 might be related.
