Help Compiling Joystick support with libjsw

Hey im trying to install libjsw and jscalibrator and i get this error

Building library "libjsw.so.1.5.8"...
Linking modules.../usr/bin/ld: axisio.o: relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.rodata.str1.8' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
axisio.o: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [modules] Error 1

i have added the -fPIC flag to both CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS in /etc/makepkg.conf with exactly the same result ? anyone got any ideas?
