[SOLVED] Zynaddsubfx and qwerty keyboard

Hello guys and girls!
I have a little trouble with zynaddsubfx sad  For a long time I was having fun with Zynaddsubfx and his awesome synths. I don't have any real musical (midi or usb, no matter) keyboard  and i played sounds with general qwerty keyboard. Zynaddsubfx previously worked on windows port and some other linux-based distros on my computer (for years never modified). But now here on Arch I can't play sounds with pc keyboard sad. Zynaddsubfx doesn't respond on almost all keys, except "6" and "7". But it is catastrophically small amount of keys to play with big_smile

I have installed Archlinux x64 and here the list of installed packages:
zynaddsubfx 2.4.1-1
alsa-firmware 1.0.23-1
alsa-lib 1.0.23-1
alsa-oss 1.0.17-1
alsa-utils 1.0.23-2
gnome-alsamixer 0.9.6-3
alsa-plugins 1.0.23-1
lib32-alsa-lib 1.0.23-2 (lib32)
lib32-alsa-plugins 1.0.23-2 (lib32)
jack 0.118.0-3
timidity++ 2.13.2-9
fluidsynth 1.1.1-2

I think the problem is wrong keymap(?) But i don't know where to fix it hmm
And, please, don't tell me things like "go and buy some serious stuff (midi keyboard, real synthesizer etc etc)" bcause I am not a musician and I am just having fun with Zynaddsubfx.

Thanks in advance smile

Re: [SOLVED] Zynaddsubfx and qwerty keyboard

I've just installed Zynaddsubfx for the first time in my life and my qwerty kbd works. I have a 32-bit Arch. Are you using some fancy keymap / keyboard?

Re: [SOLVED] Zynaddsubfx and qwerty keyboard

I don't know a solution but I think I can give you a workaround.

You can either install vkeybd or VMPK and connect their midi output to ZynAddSubFX's midi input. If you're using Jack, you can do this easily with QJacCtl's "Connections" dialog. If you're using alsa, you can do this with aconnectgui.

As I said, this is just a workaround. But if you can get sound this way, it means the problem is with ZynAddSubFX, otherwise it's your keyboard.

Re: [SOLVED] Zynaddsubfx and qwerty keyboard

Karol, I live in Kazakhstan and here I need 3 keyboard languages available (English, Kazakh, Russian). Probably, I need to know how to tell Zyn to use English keymap yikes Changing keymap while Zyn is running takes no effect.
Atomkarinca, thanks for workaround! I'll try it out and post my experience about it.

Re: [SOLVED] Zynaddsubfx and qwerty keyboard

I don't know how do you start X but I have in my ~/.xinitrc

setxkbmap pl

You may also try using the English locale in /etc/rc.conf (Zynaddsubfx works here with my Polish ones):

LOCALE="pl_PL.UTF-8"
KEYMAP="pl"

Edit:
You can change the layout to azerty, dvorak etc. under File > Settings and restart the app. Have you read the readme file?
If you click the piano keyboard with a mouse, is there a sound?

Re: [SOLVED] Zynaddsubfx and qwerty keyboard

Haha, I found a solution big_smile
It is simple as Arch must to be big_smile
Launch [System -> Settings -> Keyboard], then move english keymap to up until english keymap will be first in the keymap's list. And wow, now zynaddsubfx works like in good old days smile

Thanks to all, problem officially solved big_smile

P.S yes, of course when i click piano keys with mouse sound appears smile
