MonoDevelop -- is it broken?

Forgive me if I'm missing something, but something appears to be wrong with Mono Develop.  I'm also new to it so maybe it's just me.

Basically, I just did a fresh install of the package on Arch Linux x86_64. Then I went to create a new GTK# project and all that worked fine and it would compile and run. But my designer screen looks weird and unlike the tutorials I've seen.

And then upon trying to drag a VBox or any other component onto the window in design mode it does nothing. Is the package currently broken or am I missing some configuration step?
