Microphone details

Hi all,
i'm experiencing lots of problem with my dell pc e5510.

among all, i'd like to know how to individuate the microphone module/driver/name...i mean something related to it, because, it seems it's recognized, but it doesn't work. I don't know how to make it work.

I tried arch, fedora, ubuntu, but nothing.

Can i say there's no way to make it work?

Can u please suggest some approach to follow?

thanks a lot

Re: Microphone details

Have you read this?: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Adv … ot_working

Have you also opened "alsamixer" and adjusted microphone levels?
What sound card do you have?

Philosophy is looking for a black cat in a dark room. Metaphysics is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there. Religion is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there and shouting "I found it!". Science is looking for a black cat in a dark room with a flashlight.

thanks for the answer! i had no time to give a shot. Now i tried. No hope!!

about my audio device alsamixer says:

Card: HDA Intel
Chip: Intel G45 DEVIBX

moreover i can provide the following info:

# arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
  Subdevices: 2/2
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1

# lshw -C sound
  *-multimedia
       description: Audio device
product: 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio
       vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 1b
       bus info: pci@0000:00:1b.0
       version: 05
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
       configuration: driver=HDA Intel latency=0
       resources: irq:32 memory:f7d40000-f7d43ff

I read the wiki-page. I followed all instructions:

$ arecord -d 3 testmi.wav
$ aplay testmi.wav

NOTE: aplay gives no sound...PS: all volumes in alsamixer are enabled.

I tried to add te option in /etc/sound.conf...BUT this file doesn't exist in my system. Do you have it?

I don't know how to procede! sad
