Hi,
I have got a first generation IPOD shuffle which doesn't mount automatically on plugin. Earlier when i was using ubuntu 9.04 it use to automount on plug in but this was not the case with ubuntu 10.04. My Gnome version is 2.30.2. Right now i am manually mounting /dev/sdb1 using root to transfer any songs or data. What should i do so that my ipod automounts?

Are your other removable devices automounting?
Try starting gnome with
exec ck-launch-session gnome-session
in your ~/.xinitrc.

All my other removable device automount.
My .xinitrc already has exec ck-launch-session gnome-session.

Check dmesg when you plug it in - in particular, compare the output to that produced by one of your working devices.

I had same problem and solution is to delete /lib/udev/rules.d/90-libgpod.rules file wich gets installed with libgpod package needed for gtkpod package
hope it fixes problem for u...

Deleting the file automounts my ipod but still it is not detected by rhythmbox. Prior to this my ipod would mount on /dev/sdb1 but now it mounts on /dev/sdc1 and shows disk icon on my desktop.

My second generation iPod Shuffle doesn't show up in Rhythmbox, but it does in the latest version of Banshee (available in the AUR) and it seems to work OK in the gtkpod program too, though I haven't really tested it there enough to know for sure.

Hi
Works with gtkpod but not with banshee. Is there some way to get this working in either banshee or Rhythmbox.

To see your iPod on rhythmbox you need to install two packages: libgpod (fonund in extra repo, if is not already installed) and media-player-info (found in AUR) restart rhythmbox and you will see your ipod mounted and ready to use/transfer music
