I just noticed that the current kernel26 in core is marked as being the 2.6.34.1 kernel, but at package build time it obtains source for only 2.6.34.

This has been the case for some time in regards to kernel point releases.
i.e. the Arch kernel26 package marked as version 2.6.33.4 also obtains source for only 2.6.33

Considering how long this has been the case for, I'm assuming it's normal and correct. Mostly I'm just interested to know why? Are point release changes rolled into the Arch kernel patch or something?

Ah, some deeper searching revealed this:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/14534
"the ARCH patch includes the upstream 2.6.29.x kernelpatches. Download the PKGBUILD and sources and compare it to the patch-2.6.29.2.bz2 file on ftp.kernel.org, you'll see that it's included."
Question answered, sorry for unnecessary forum post... nonetheless, this practice does strike me as a bit odd.
