KDE Apps in GNOME

One Question. Are there people out there using KDE applications in GNOME

Some Applications like Kalzium, KStars, KTouchType (to just name 3 of maybe 50) doesn´t have an real alternative so some people say that KDE is better than GNOME

is it really?

If you use the GTK+ Theme in Systemsettings and the correct color sheme + icon theme you dont even see that it is a KDE application at all so why not use KDE applications in GNOME?

Some people just have a problem with things like that. If they use GNOME they want GTK+ Applications only and if they use KDE they want Qt/KDElibs Applications only

thats just stupid. The sense of OpenSource and the sense of beeing human at all is to complement each other.

There will never be something perfect and as long people dont accept that they will never get what they really need.

Im are a KDE user myself for different reasons but i use some GTK+ Apps (like the NetworkManager Frontend, Cheese, Pidgin and so on) anyway and i dont now why not.

I also use things like digiKam and the apps i mentioned above in GNOME and everything works fine.

So people should start to use things for the effect and not for the principle

In regards to Qt and GTK, I agree. I use both, and other toolkits.

In regards to a blog, I recommend it. I recently got my own Arch blog and am enjoying it. wink

I second the blog and this is probably heading towards TGN eventually...

Also, telling people what they should and should not do, does not follow in respect to open standards.  The "sense of OpenSource" is all about choice, so in regard to people using only GTK apps in Gnome and QT apps in KDE or both tookits in one environment depends upon the user's choice and it is NOT yours to make for others.  The choice is not the problem... the opinions of others that invade users' choices are problem and that's how flame wars start.

Re: KDE Apps in GNOME

I guess one problem is that people using Gnome don't want to install all the KDE stuff only for one application. I don't really care I was always using K3B on Gnome as an example. But I guess you are right people do it only for the principle. That's OK as well. So we get better applications for both wink

But I would like to mention that there is something for Gnome like Kalzium. There are the gnome-chemistry-utils. I think there are more handy, because they are much lighter. Unfortunately they are not in the ArchLinux repos.

As i said, some applications doesnt have a replacement. Best example is KStars or KTouchType.

What's KtouchType? Even Google points right to this thread and nowhere else.

thats just stupid.

Calling people stupid for not doing things the way you would is not cool at all, especially considering the nature/purpose of arch.  Also, you start too many threads.

Telling people how much they should write is not cool at all. smile Many of his latest posts were purely informative, i see no issue there.

He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.

Re: KDE Apps in GNOME

Again its not about what they do, its about why they do it.

For example on a EeePC i really can understand why nobody wants to use KDE Apps in GNOME and GNOME Apps in KDE. You just don´t have enough disk-space (or maybe on the new versions you have)

And i always start the same amount of threads^^ im just not always here at the forum tongue

First sentence, fine. Second sentence, not on. If he is doing so, just use that 'report' button and let us know, we'll decide. As it is, you make a point but then spoil it by being petty. Don't do that.

There is a GTK replacement for KTouch: Klavaro
It's in [community].

Re: KDE Apps in GNOME

Maybe because I don't want all the dependencies?

Quite frankly, I'm all for choice, but certain things (i.e. frameworks) deserve unification.

Personally, I'd rather be back in Hobbiton.

Re: KDE Apps in GNOME

I've just seen that there is another alternative for KTouchType in [Community]. There is an app called tipp10 but it is in german only. Therefor it looks as if it is pretty intelligent. It recognises which mistakes are made more often than others and it repeats special exercises to extinguish these mistakes.
