Getting my sound jacks to work (snd-hda-intel; Realtek ALC880)

I've tried searching the forums for solutions, but I can't find anything that works. I've tried editing /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf and setting the model manually, but it doesn't seem to work. I have 3 jacks in the back, and a headphone and microphone jack in the front, but I don't think that matches anything from here (http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation … Models.txt; Realtek ALC880).

Here's the output of a few commands, if it'll help:

root /home/megajosh2 > lspci -v

And here's my modprobe.conf:

#
# /etc/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
#
options snd-pcsp index=1
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack  #awaiting another change?

Here's the MODULES line from my /etc/rc.conf as well:

MODULES=(!snd-pcm-oss)  #should I add/remove some things?

Hmm, /etc/modprobe.conf is not used anymore. You must put it in /etc/modprobe.d. I would name the file according to its function, for example, hda-intel.conf. Another tip is to use model=auto. I've struggled with a lot of other values, but recently auto seems to solve the problems. Don't know why without any value it doesn't work, though...

Re: Getting my sound jacks to work (snd-hda-intel; Realtek ALC880)

Oh, it's at /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf. I just moved it when it became deprecated. Well, I'll try model=auto and see what I get...

Edit: Now the card doesn't even show up. I only see my USB speakers in /proc/asound/cards now...

Does anybody else have an idea of what's wrong?

Re: Getting my sound jacks to work (snd-hda-intel; Realtek ALC880)

Edit;

nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Add;

options snd-hda-intel model=z71v position_fix=1

Have you tried?

options snd-hda-intel model=hippo

Why that file doesn't exist in my filesystem?

Re: Getting my sound jacks to work (snd-hda-intel; Realtek ALC880)

I don't know what your question refers to. I dont have it in my /etc/modprobe.d either. maybe you need to run

$ alsamixer

Change settings if needed. Then;

$ alsactl store

Seems like a logical reason to me. I haven't stored any settings with alsactl. I was lucky everything worked out of the box with Arch.

I tried model=hippo and model=z71v but when I use them, the card doesn't even show up in alsamixer.

Re: Getting my sound jacks to work (snd-hda-intel; Realtek ALC880)

With the options I'm using, the card doesn't even show up in /proc/asound/cards so that won't help...
