Hi,
I had some issues trying to get a new usb wireless stick working (zoom 4410b).
I know the stick worked fine as i had used it in windows, and tried it on various other computers running arch (all worked).
I have narrowed it down to the onboard usb.
The usb stick requires ndiswrapper, and when modprobe ndiswrapper is run, ndiswrapper uses 100% cpu and freezes the system.
However i had a spare pci usb hub, so i plugged that in and tried the wireless stick in there and it works fine.
Heres the error i get when plugging into onboard:
usb 3-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
usb 3-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
ndiswrapper: driver wlanuzg (Zoom Technologies, Inc,08/08/2007,1.7.1.4) loaded
ehci_hcd 0000:00:13.2: force halt; handshake f892a424 00004000 00000000 -> -110
ehci_hcd 0000:00:13.2: HC died; cleaning up
After this point, no more messages or errors are logged (e.g. from unplugging usb) until i reboot the system.
The relevant parts from lspci:
00:12.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI0 Controller
00:12.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700 USB OHCI1 Controller
00:12.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB EHCI Controller
00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI0 Controller
00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700 USB OHCI1 Controller
00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB EHCI Controller
00:14.5 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI2 Controller
03:07.0 USB Controller: OPTi Inc. 82C861 (rev 10) <-- this must be the pci usb hub
Anyone any idea why this might be?
edit: also i forgot to mention, the usb works with other devices without problem (i have both a usb keyboard and usb mouse plugged in).
The motherboard is an asus m4a77td pro
Another unrelated problem i have with the wireless:
sometimes when i download a large file or have many connections, the wireless disconnects.
Im then unable to reconnect unless i unplug/plug the wireless usb card, or use modprobe -r ndiswrapper, modprobe ndiswrapper.
I know it isnt a signal problem as the card works fine in the same place when i try it in windows.
Thanks
Kane
