I removed kde for lxde but now i got nothing :( !

As the header says i wanted to try lxde and everything would have been fine(hopefully!) if i had shown some presence of mind and gone and commented "exec startkde" in "~/.xinitrc" , and then installed lxde but i went and did "pacman -Rns kde" and then went and installed lxde and Slim. But now when i try going into arch i don't get any DE only console just like how it was during install! also if i tried startx to see the GUI but it comes up with a lot of errors(there is a lot of icons missing in the system tray, instead there is a page symbol with a red cross at the corner). Can someone please help me get lxde working on my laptop?
Btw i did go back into ~/.xinitrc and commented startkde and uncommented startlxde and changed it to exec ck-launch-session startlxde and removed kdm from rc.conf and added slim at the very end!

P.S: I am really new at this and would appreciate it if you could break down your instructions to dummy level -_-" !

Re: I removed kde for lxde but now i got nothing :( !

From what I understad lxde works but is missing some icons, right?
Try adding 'exec startlxde' to your ~/.xinitrc" and comment out all the other things. then type 'startx' from the console.
The GUI should come up and if the errors are about missing icons, then you need to install some icons. It would be helpful if you would post those errors.

By "working" I mean you something other than a black screen. If you can see the system tray you obviously do see something.
Try to (re)install lxde-icon-theme. If it doesn't help, reinstall lxappearance + lxpanel.

Did you reinstall lxde-icon-theme? It should have some icons.

Edit: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LXDE#lxpanel_Icons
Re-read the wiki page about lxde to check if you were following it.

Check if you have any icons in /usr/share/pixmaps.
Post a screenshot if you can. Are all the icons missing or only for some apps?
Can you post those errors you get?

Try installing the Tango or Gnome icons?

These are two seperate issues: a) does LXDE work and b) does slim work. What exactly are your problems with LXDE, apart from the icon of error? For slim, did you try the inittab method instead of daemon? Any infos in the logs?

Re: I removed kde for lxde but now i got nothing :( !

@hokasch I tried the inittab method and looks like i have gotten myself into deeper doo doo! Slim now starts(tho it looks nothin like what it was shown to be in its screenshots!) after entering my login details and password it shows me a black screen with broken text on top an then comes back to login! i now cannot access console either! sad

P.S: Arch fallback is also affected!

Did you remove the daemon in rc.conf? You can switch tty with ctrl+alt+Fx, and slim should have an option to log you into a normal tty. Check the tty slim/X started in for errors, and look at the log files. Boot to single user mode if you can't get into a console.

Re: I removed kde for lxde but now i got nothing :( !

Ya, i removed the daemon in rc.conf! ctrl+alt+Fxn does allow me access to console. I re-checked my steps and realised i had left xdm and slim uncommented! i corrected that but now slim does not load again -_-" ! And lxde does not load unless i login to root and type startx in the console.

You were not wasting my time, the wiki said, it should just work, so I don't know what went wrong.

The fallback image contains just the kernel, not the whole system, so it had nothing to do with the WM/DE you're using and of course it didn't change a thing.

You can add [closed] tag to the title.
