configuring chromium

i've just installed chromium on my kde system and am having some trouble configuring it.

1. small ui (tabs, urlbar, etc.) fonts. i've tried the usual tips (e.g., configuring ~/.xdefaults, forcing dpi via kde's system settings), but nothing seems to work.

2. inconsistent font rendering on websites. i've configured chromium (options > under the hood > change font and language settings) to use size 18 fonts, and while some websites are displayed with large fonts, some are displayed with tiny fonts.

3. disable cache. i'm currently using the command 'chromium --disk-cache-dir="/dev/null/"' to do this, but i was wondering if there was a better way.

4. increase number of lines scrolled. chromium doesn't seem to recognize kde's system setting. how do you control this? do you modify the source?

5. do you have any tips for integrating chromium into kde?

thanks!

Re: configuring chromium

2. In Firefox there's an option to allow webpages to choose fonts. I don't see it in chromium but maybe it's just not accessible via the GUI.

Re: configuring chromium

came up with a workaround for 2. i created a custom stylesheet and added:

* {font-size: 15px !important;}

to it. saved and now fonts look fine.

still not sure about the other questions, though.

Re: configuring chromium

1. I don't really know what you mean - F11 = fullscreen is "small" enough for me :-)
3. Try '-disk-cache-size=0' or ask Google for a better one.
4. Have you tried extensions like SmoothScroll or Vimium?
5. I don't think you can integrate e.g. Google Earth - it has it's own interface that doesn't follow any other rules / settings. Seems the same thing w/ Chromium.

Re: configuring chromium

1. i dont know what you mean too
2. We all hate web-designers, i have the same problem in FF and Konqueror (from page to page)
3. seems like Chromium really misses an option here
4. seems like the same of 3.)
5. what do you call "Integrate"? Chromium is a GTK+ app at all so you can integrate him like every other GTK+ app (setup using the GTK+ Design and System Windowbars instead of his own)
5.1 There are some very nice KDE Designs for Chromium (athes, air, and so on) which let him look like his a part of the workspace wink

Wrt to 5. - I was thinking more about how it works and not how it looks :-)

Re: configuring chromium

thanks for the replies.

1. my problem is basically this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … ost9414952

on my system, the tab and urlbar fonts are extremely small, maybe 8pt. it seems chromium doesn't use system fonts. the font size may be hardcoded.

3. i don't mind throwing everything into /dev/null. i was just wondering if there was a setting i missed somewhere.

4. i've tried smoothscroll, but i prefer fast, nonsmooth scrolling. i'll keep poking around.

5. i meant integration visually and operationally. but there's probably not much i can do about that.

Re: configuring chromium

1. Well, that's 5. again - Google lives in it's own world, follows it's own rules. I though the problem was that the fonts / UI are too big and you want them small and therefore I suggested fullscreen.
