Wifi at install (mostly working)

I've gone through the majority of the core installation (hopefully) and I'm now trying to install wireless access. I haven't got wired internet at all so that's not an option. It's a USB device with an R73 chipset and I've installed the firmware for it as well. I'm using WPA and by searching and following instructions in various places I've managed to create a wpa_supplicant.conf file and get it connected and I can ping with a 20ms response from www.bbc.co.uk. The thing is, I'm only getting about 5kTX and 1kRX when I enter 'ifconfig' so it won't do much.
I'm posting this from an Ubuntu liveCD with no connection problems so I know its not the connection, but if I can connect and ping okay, then any ideas as to why its not having it?

Thanks
Adam

Re: Wifi at install (mostly working)

Have you checked out netcfg?  It's an Arch tool used for managing network profiles from the command-line, and supports WPA encryption (using wpa_supplicant).  That might make your wireless easier to set up, and that way you won't miss things.
