palm z22 not syncing with jpilot

I have had no problems with Arch Linux since I installed it on my HP Mini yesterday, except this; I am having trouble syncing my brother's Palm Z22 with JPilot. I was able to sync the palm z22 in windows, though.

I installed pilot-link, then jpilot. I started up jpilot and  plugged in the palm. I followed the above guide but nothing happened when I tried to install a user, sync, or back up the palm. When I press the hotsync button on the palm, it attempts to connect via usb, but it gives me an error saying that it could not connect. Nothing happens when I press the back up and sync buttons in jpilot.

The reason I am trying to connect to his palm is to install Phoinix for him so he can play Pokemon. (as well as add a couple of games)

Is your user a member of the usb group?

Have you looked at the troubleshooting hints in the wiki?

I am pretty sure my user is in the USB group, but I will double-check.

ok, its in the uucp group. Is the usb group?

[daniel@myhost ~]$ groups daniel
bin daemon sys adm tty disk lp mem kmem wheel ftp mail uucp log locate smmsp http games network video audio optical floppy storage scanner power dbus hal users
[daniel@myhost ~]$

I followed thye wiki article to "cd /dev/ && ls" and my palm showed up as "serial" in blue when I tried to hotsync, not palm or pilot.

edit: I followed the wiki and nothing happened. nothing changed, it still doesn't sync, no matter what I do.
