sis si7012 capture state always off on boot

I have an older socket 939 board, sis chipset.
Running xfce4 with alsa.

Everything seems to work fine *except* after boot the "capture" portion is disabled.  This requires a user to bring up xfce4 mixer, go to the "capture" tab and turn on the capture.

I'm not sure if this is alsa or xfce, etc.

Considering this machine is working as a recording appliance having this extra step is kind of unacceptable.

What does SAVE_VOLUME in /etc/conf.d/alsa say? If the current state doesn't get saved even though that is set to "yes", there's two things: Try storing the state manually with "alsactl store" as root. If that doesn't work, it means xfce mixer is messing things up, but since I don't use xfce I can't help there.

Re: sis si7012 capture state always off on boot

SAVE_VOLUME is on.  The rest of the mixer settings are restored, just not the recording state.  Part of my exercise was to screw with alsact store/restore also.

I disabled xfce4-mixer and yeah, it doesn't boot up with line in capture turned on by default not matter what I seem to do.

I started swapping cards around (put in audigy, etc) and started having issues with system freeze during boot, etc.   The hardware itself may be touchy (plus SIS was never a player in the athlon64 market).   Probably should consider switching it out, I have an atom 330 system I can use instead.

Well I switched the system over to KDE, used that mixer and it *seems* to hold the mixer settings.  Not having seen kde for several years I'm a bit underwhelmed...now I have to figure out how to turn off all the crap (transparency and fading irritates me to no end).
