A small questoin. My Girlfriend runs Kubuntu (used Ubuntu before) and she doesnt have that much LInux Knowledge.
the Problem ist that she have a cheap SIS Graphic Chip and on (K)Ubuntu it uses 800x600 resolution instead of 1280x800 and so everything is too large and looks ugly
I tried as much as possible but i dont get it really working. X.Org is configured properly (also Ubuntu should configure everything automatic).
Is there a chance that this problem wont appear with Archlinux? I want to ask before cause i really dont want to install archlinux on her notebook when it wouldn´t help

Does she have the right drivers installed?
Do you have xrandr there? If so, what does 'xrandr' show?

xf86-video-sis is installed (Ubuntu installed it automatically)
she have xrandr + the KDE Tool krandrtray
it shows that she can use up to 800x600

Wouldn't everything be set up under /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

i setup everything correctly. He just tells me that he isn´t able to do more than 800x600...

The catch is the 'should', that doesn't mean it actually did . Keep in mind Ubuntu's Xorg is a lot older than Arch's. There have been plenty of situations where automated setup proved inadequate; don't rule it out. You should really check in with the Ubuntu community to fix this problem.
The only way you can find out whether Arch would do it 'correctly' is to install it. I'm not advocating, I'm just saying.

i installed arch. The failure is
xf86-video-sis is not for the sis card she have so he fallbacks to vesa and that is (dont know why) limited to 800x600

Vesa only does VESA-specified resolutions (those which your BIOS supports afaik).

So you have either get a card that is supported by some driver or get a driver that supports your card.
Or try running things in the framebuffer with uvesafb.

thats quite annoying... framebuffer can use 1024x786 without problems....

Try this one.
Another option is to test Mandriva Live-CD.
Only Mandriva worked OK with the SIS-graphic card of my brother's laptop (without this 'special' driver).

Well, it's not exactly available in Arch too (only the official repos count) ;P
Please mark it as solved.

jajaja AUR does count too

For the Sis671 card you need a special driver. I made a package for it in AUR - you can find it here:

Ignore this, will build a fresh thread.
