Grub 17 when booting fro, usb flash disk

Hi;
i downloaded the iso installation file(i tired netinstall and core) then copied them to my usb disk(via dd, it didn't work, then via flashnul). When i boot from the usb key, i get Grub 17 error.
What's wrong?

thanks for reading

PS: With dd, i checked that i am using /dev/sdb not /dev/sdb1

Re: Grub 17 when booting fro, usb flash disk

post your grub options please ! ( try to edit the line you are booting, and you'll see them )

Error 17 is when grub tries to boot your defined partition but it cannot recognize the filesystem type.

Re: Grub 17 when booting fro, usb flash disk

Perhaps you ran the DD to your flash drive incorrectly.

The proper procedure is to run the iso to the flash drive using the ID for the flash drive as ...sd(x)... not ...sd(x1)....

Thus, if flash drive is ..sda...use:

dd if=.iso of=/dev/sda

This should provide a bootable install for the flash drive.

Why don't you just read the topic before answering?

Perhaps I missed the PS: because my display size was too small!

I suggest that your procedure was correct .

I further suggest that you may find that applying ....dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb...will prepare the flash drive for the install .iso, since it may now have incorrect format.

Good luck...............
