[SOLVED] Fn Keys on ASUS netbook

I've installed Arch on my ASUS 1018pb netbook. I'm still in the early stages of the install, but I've noticed that the screen brightness keys (Fn5 & Fn6) work but none of the others do. In doing some research I discovered this link: http://www.webupd8.org/2010/05/enable-f … c-and.html and I thought it may help me with my Arch install.

It appears that Ubuntu installs grub differently than Arch as I was unable to located the file "/etc/default/grub".

If would someone mind looking at the above link and let me know if this is something I can do with my Arch install or if there is another way to get my Fn keys to work it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kent

After doing that, try installing acpi-eeepc-generic, and configuring it for your model.  It's bascially a bunch of shellscripts used by acpid as handlers for your "honeky" events.  After you get acpi-eeepce-generic setup (and have acpid running) you should see your keys working.

Re: [SOLVED] Fn Keys on ASUS netbook

It looks like all you have to do is add those arguments to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst under the "Arch Linux" entry.

example:

kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/path/to/root ro acpi_osi=Linux

Hope this helps smile

Re: [SOLVED] Fn Keys on ASUS netbook

ubuntu uses the grub2 bootloader. Arch Linux(and pretty much every other distro) uses grub. Try editing the /boot/grub/menu.lst and adding that acpi line.

EDIT: Oops, too late.

That explains why I couldn't find /etc/default/grub smile Thanks.

I am going to marked this solved.I'm planning on doing a reinstall so I can keep better records of what I do.
