When I initially boot up my computer, my brightness keys work perfectly. After suspending to RAM, I cannot change my brightness via the Fn-F6 and Fn-F7 keys (on my Fujitsu T900), but I can as root via echo $NUMBER > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness.
I never used to have this problem, and I am uncertain what caused it. Please let me know if there are any config files I can post that would help diagnosing this issue.
I tried turning laptop-mode off to see if it was interfering, but it had no effect on brightness, on or off.
