I installed go-openoffice from the normal repos, typed in OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kde4 soffice and lo and behold openoffice dialogues are now KDE - hurray!!!
Checked the wiki which says to put the above line in /etc/profile.d/openoffice.sh - so I did as I was told (and created /etc/profile.d/openoffice.sh in the process) but when I start writer I still get the old gtk dialogues.
The second approach says it should be put into /usr/bin/soffice but that has ended in total disaster for me in that the cpu went into overdrive and stopped accepting anything I was able to throw at it.
Has anybody managed to automate this process so that kde integration works even when it is not started from the command line?

Uhm, maybe I don't get that right, but when "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs" is disabled in the general options, the dialogs are KDE stuff for me anyway...

So what are you doing right and I am doing wrong?
Did you just install and it worked out of the box?

I have to say that I had the "normal" openoffice-packages installed before. Maybe this has something to do with it? Not sure..I'm not using it very often anyway, so I didn't care what the menus are like, but just looked it up when I saw this thread...does the mentioned option have any effect for you or none at all?

Yes and no - gtk dialogues stay but look different

ave pretty good open office integration in KDE, and I didn't run the FORCE DESKTOP string. I think though it is because I am using qtcurve for kde and gtk apps and am not using the qt-gtk engine.
Furthermore, in the options menu for Open office, I do not have the Use Open Office Dialogs checked, meaning it is not using them and instead is using dialogs provided by the WM engine. Since qtcurve allows me to have a similar look for kde and gtk aps, this gives me what I believe to be as close to perfect integration as you can get.

Okay, time for some piccies:
EDIT:
Solved. I knew it was me being plain thick, so a night's sleep or two sorted it. Instead of following the wiki I edited the menu entries for OpenOffice and placed OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kde4 in front of the actual command - bingo. Okay, it is not global, but enough for me.
Will adjust the wiki accordingly.

Open your menu editor - office - OpenOffice Writer - general tab/Command.
It currently reads "/usr/bin/soffice -writer" and it should read "OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kde4 /usr/bin/soffice -writer"

I think it should be export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kde4 in the /etc/profile.d/openoffice.sh file

kevku, I had that as well, adjusting the /etc/profile.d/openoffice.sh file after I tried with the "normal" OpenOffice. Didn't work, but my method did. Still looking for a more elegant cli solution which would be global... Any offers?

/etc/profile.d/openoffice.sh needs to be executable and you need to source/relogin after you change it.

you surely know about that but it changed everything for me :
putting this in /home/user/.Xdefaluts
! Xft settings ---------------------------------------------------------------
Xft.dpi: 96
Xft.antialias: true
Xft.rgba: rgb
Xft.hinting: true
Xft.hintstyle: hintslightXft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
REALLY improved font rendering in Openoffice and general quality fonts in gtk apps under kde desktop
hope it helps
